As the title says, not a whole song or an instrumental piece, but one particular lyric that you love or have a special relationship to. You dont have to love the song itself, just that one part.

I was listening to The Boss earlier today, when I realized that a particular lyric in "The Promise" always hits me real hard. When Bruce sings

"All my life, I fought that fight
The fight that you can't win
Every day it just gets harder to live
The dream you're believing in"

it always makes me emotional. I suppose it's because I have battled certain problems my entire life, as many others have too. And for those times when you think that "It's going to be like this forever, isnt it?", this particular part just resonates so well with, well, everything.

TL;DNR
1#: A particular part of a lyric you absolutely love or live by, even though you might not like the song itself. Of course, it could be all the lyrics to a song too. What matters is that it is the lyrics, not the music. You should be able to read the lyrics and get the same feeling you get when listening to the song.

2# The reason you feel that way about that lyric.

"But there's no sense crying over every mistake.
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake."

I remember the fist time I conferred the Second Degree acted in a play with a lot of monologues, and made a few mistakes. Afterwards, I was really hard on myself until I remembered GLaDOS' message.

I'm yet to see a more awesome bit of writing then this

"ANCIENT MYTH ARCANA, ELYSIAN SEAS OF TIME
THE STONES OF WISDOM SHINE AGAIN, THE MOONLIGHT HIDES THE RHYME
IN LONG GONE DAYS OF YORE, ONE THOUSAND YEARS BEFORE
THE ODYSSEY WAS IN OUR DREAMS, ARCANA WE EXPLORE"
Edenbridge - Arcana

Why do I love it? I have no idea! I simply love it.

from Hanaeryca - Someday:

"I know how dumb I am but so are you"

I don't really know, but something about that line really amuses me.
P.S. those lyrics come up at 1:37

"I won't tell you, there's nothing neath your bed
I won't tell you, that it's all in your head
This world of ours is not as it seems
The monsters are real but not in your dreams
Learn what you can from the beasts you defeat,
you'll need it for some of the people you meet"

From "Goodnight Demon Slayer" by Voltaire.

I'm not sure why, but I feel great every time I hear these lyrics.

And the weirdest thing about a Mind,
is that every answer that you find,
is the basis of a brand new cliche.

Not a lyric, just part of a song:

06.39 to 07.55.

The birth of awesome, best part in any song ever made. Anyone who disagrees is probably deaf.

"The regrets are useless in my mind,
she's in my head, I must confess.
The regrets are useless in mind,
she's in my head from so long ago.
And in the darkest night,
if my memory serves me right,
I'll never turn back time,
forgetting you but not the time."

Whatsername - Green Day

I don't know why these lyrics hit me hard, but they do. They hit me even harder when I listen to the American Idiot on Broadway version of the song.

Haha Tim Minchin. Brilliant man.
OT: There is no song where the absence of the music would make no difference for me. But I do love the lines from The Great Debate by Dream Theater.
"Turn to the light. Don't be frightened by the shadows it creates."

The end of: Rise Against - The Good Left Undone

"All because of you,
I believe in angels.
Not the kind with wings,
No, not the kind with halos,
The kind that bring you home,
When home becomes a strange place.
I'll follow your voice,
All you have to do is shout it out."

I wouldn't say it "hits me in the guts", but I definitely get chills.

I don't mean to dwell
But I can't help myself
When I feel the vibe
And taste a memory
Of a time in life
When years seemed to stand still

I close my eyes
And sink within myself
Relive the gift of precious memories
In need of a fix called innocence

When did it begin?
The change to come was undetectable
The open wounds expose the importance of
Our innocence
A high that can never be bought or sold

All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
One of the best Beatles Songs ever and this line always gets me and I think people I know who aren't around anymore.

White needles buried in the red
The engine roars and then it gives
but never dies because we don't live we just survive

Good old Re-Education thought labor by rise against when ever i hear that part it sends shivers down my spine.

"But when they're parking their cars on your chest
You've still got a view of the summer sky
To make it hurt twice when your restless body
Caves to it's whims
And finally struggles to take flight."

The Shins - Know Your Onion

Mercer is a lyrical genius, in my oppinion. Pretty much every song by The Shins is full of beautiful little snippets like this.

"Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.

Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find: ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run.
You missed the starting gun."

It hurts every time I hear that line, considering my life is trying to live out this way, and I'm struggling as hard as I can not to make it come true.

"She touches his chest now,
He takes off her dress now,
I just can't look, it's killing me."

I never much liked Mr. brightside till one moment where that line played at the exact moment I was watching someone I loved with someone else.
It's struck a chord with me ever since.

The end of Sing for Absolution by Muse. The lyrics are the same but it's the feeling of utter apocalypse, you can see yourself standing on the dying earth as you listen.
Oh and Skinny Love by Bon Iver.
"Come on Skinny Love just last a year."
It only hit me after a few listens that he was talking about a terminal patient, someone barely willing or able to hold on for even a year. Suicidal stuff.
