"It drops deep, as it does in my breath,
I never sleep, 'cos sleep is the cousin of death.
Beyond the walls of intelligence, life is defined,
I think of crime, when I'm in a New York State o' Mind'

And people say that Hip-Hop isn't poetry.

You told I had the eyes of the Wolf
search them and find the beauty of the beast

a saint blessed me, drank me deeply
spitting out the misery in me,
still a sinner rapes a thousand saints
sharing the same hell with me

"When I was alone as one,
my eyes were as blind, I know.
Sky brilliant with blue elegance,
I couldn't behold.

When I was alone as one,
My heart was as ice, so cold.
Wind whispering sweet melodies,
I could not behold.

Sight to my eyes,
and warmth to my heart,
Your love has been such to me.

Pull closer now,
And strengthen my leaning,
Toward love to heal all my wounds.

When our hearts both beat in time,
There's magic in your smile,
It seems there's nothing we can't do.

And within your warm embrace,
My heart will find a place,
Even from afar,
Our love forever shall be destiny."

I cry manly tears whenever I think of how my life has gone, the women that have taught me what love can be and how to share that kind of love with the rest of the world.

Black then white are,
All I see,
In my infancy,
red and yellow then came to be,
reaching out to me, lets me see.
As below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn beyond the lines of reason,
push the envelope, Watch it bend.

- Tool, Lateralus

Also,

Aerials, in the sky,
When you lose small mind you free your life.
- Aerials, System of a down

"These Days"
Don't confront me with my failures; I had not forgotten them. ...
By Jackson Browne (he was 16 when he wrote that? I was permanently drunk at 16!)

?Iorn? The whole song is magic but if I have to pick:
I long to feel the pain and the bitter taste, of the blood on my lips again
&
A million miles from home, I?m walking away. I can?t remind your eyes, your face.
By Woodkid (makes me weep)

"In Noctem"
Carry my soul into the night, May the stars guide my way.
I glory in the sight, As darkness takes the day.
By Nicholas Hooper (Beautiful)

"Finding the strength to be
The man I'm proud to see
in the mirror's too d-i-f-f-i-c-u-l-t
to spell out in words how I'mma earn it
but kids gotta learn that if something's
worth having then it's worth fighting for"

From Locomotive by More or Les

Just suits me.

I normally hate rap but, dese lyrics:

Hark! the angels stay singing in the dark
Like the rainbow in the Ronnie James Dio joint
Hit it from the back court
Like it was a three point
I don?t give a fuck, I?m a duck to a decoy
No trust them white face man like Geronimo
Tried to go to Amsterdam they threw us in Guantanamo

--Das Racist

why do I think its sooo awesome?

I really like "The View" by Modest Mouse:

"As life gets longer, awful feels softer/
Well it feels pretty soft to me/
And if it takes shit to make bliss/
then I feel pretty blissfully"

I love the wordplay and how it sounds a lot less cynical than it reads. It's more playful and resigned than it is angry. The last words make complete the theme:

"We are fixeeeed.../
right where we stand."

It starts out sounding like that for all his troubles, the singer is still a happy, complete person. But when you reach the end you realize he isn't better off, only stuck in place.

I have strange tastes.

I see two Rise Against posts already; if this is a long runner, expect that to be a common theme.

Was going to make one myself, then I remembered 4AM Forever by Lostprophets, just the chorus:

Why don't you hear me when I'm calling out to you?
Why won't you listen when I try to make it through?
Goodbye, goodbye
Goodbye, you'll never know
Hold a little tighter
4AM forever...

The reason this will always give me chills is cause this song once came on on shuffle about ten minutes after I got rejected. It always holds that significance in my heart and it makes the lyrics that little bit more evocative in my mind. (In reality, apparently they're about the loss of a dear friend.)
It's also a great song.

The entire song of Iron Maiden's Wasted Years speaks for me and my time at university.

From the coast of gold, across the seven seas
I'm travelin' on, far and wide
But now it seems, I'm just a stranger to myself
And all the things I sometimes do, it isn't me but someone else

I close my eyes and think of home
Another city goes by in the night, ain't it funny how it is
You never miss if til' it's gone away
And my heart is lying there and will be til' my dying day

So understand don't waste your time
Always searching for those wasted years
Face up, make your stand
And realize you're living in the golden years

Too much time on my hands, I got you on my mind
Can't ease this pain , so easily, when you can't find the words to say
It's hard to make it through another day
And it makes me wanna cry and throw my hands up to the sky

So understand don't waste your time
Always searching for those wasted years
Face up, make your stand
And realize you're living in the golden years

So understand don't waste your time
Always searching for those wasted years
Face up, make your stand
And realize you're living in the golden years

So understand don't waste your time
Always searching for those wasted years
Face up, make this stand
And realize you're living in the golden years.

Make It Stop
Make This End
This life chose me, I'm not lost in sin
But proud I stand, of who I am
I plan to go on living

From "Make It Stop (September's Children)" by Rise Against

Happy to see so many Rise Against songs already.

The song "Wires" by Athlete is incredibly hard hitting for me. The lead singer wrote it about his experience when his daughter was born prematurely. I was very ill when I was born and listening to that song basically conveys to me what my parents went through. An excerpt:

"Running, down corridors through, automatic doors
Got to get to you, got to see this through
First night of your life, curled up on your own
Looking at you now, you would never know"

One day you look to find that
Ten years has got behind you
No-one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun
(cue awesome guitar solo)

Pink Floyd, Time.

Actually, that song (hell, most songs by that band) is composed almost entirely of great lyrics.

From the same song:

And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

"GETTIN DOME IN THE WHIP BUST CREAM ON YO SHIT!!!"

I mean "Just wanna find out what your nice to me for..."
-In a Jar by Dinosaur Jr.

Basically sums up my relationship with everyone around me...<.<

also the entirety of You Know You're Right by Nirvana...

This is Kurt at his best musically but his worst emotionally.. this was his last recorded song, on the brink of self destruction stewing on self hatred and tortured agony begging for isolation and alienation from those around him looking to cut all emotional bonds... this is last statement of self deprecation and "irony" before the end... and it shows... Every line spews out pure self hatred and utter misery...

I've always liked the lyrics from Like a Friend by Pulp:

'I've done this before
And I will do it again
Come on and kill me baby
While you smile like a friend
Oh and I'll come running
Just to do it again'

I think it's partly because the music kicks in right after that last line but also because the song pretty much sums up the relationship between myself and my best friend. Gaaay.
