With all the doom and gloom surrounding the game, I'd just like to share some of the best news that I've heard about the game. You no longer get punished for not playing a pure Paragon or Renegade character.
There?s no penalty for mixing Paragon and Renegade: In Mass Effect 2, if you wanted to get the hardest Charm options, you had to play an almost completely Paragon character. We intended many of those Charms to be fun Easter eggs, but many players felt like they had to play pure Paragon to avoid being penalized by the loss of a dialog option. In Mass Effect 3, your Reputation score determines both Charm and Intimidate options, and that score is determined by adding your Paragon and Renegade scores together. You?re still rewarded for being a completionist player and doing as much content as you can, but you can do it as a Paragon or Renegade player without penalty.

They fixed one of my biggest complaints about the series, you no longer have to metagame. :D
Discussion: Thoughts on this?

I think it's a good move. I always played Paragon Shepard so I often missed out on the more Bold and usually funnier Renegade options because of my preferred play style. All in all, I like this idea, whether or not I take advantage of it.

That's cool, to bad they can't retroactively add that to ME1 and ME2.
I thought that as well. It is going to make playing the first two a bit unsatisfying after having this luxury in 3.

Thank goodness. I think being locked into the good or evil side for the sake of maximising points might be the biggest problem that "moral choice" systems in games have, it's good to learn that someone is finally trying to crack it.

I can probably still enjoy 2, but I don't know if I can go back and play 1 after all of these tweaks and improvements in ME3.

WHAT NO?! This is terrible news. They've just streamlined the game moreso for the masses... so now you can just play 1 playthrough and reload a save to see how each dialogue plays out differently rather than picking something and living with your consequences later on in the game when you are for example unable to stop you-know-who dying in ME1.
No this is better than the old system simply because you arent deadlocked into being either Paragon or Renegade from the beginning. It wasnt so much of a problem in 1 since dialogue was determined by Charm/Intimidate points, but in 2, unless you exclusively picked Renegade or Paragon options, you would have a really annoying time trying to solve problems with words instead of bullets.

I am 90% sure that he is being sarcastic to make fun of that part of Biowares fanbase who complain about everything.

OT: It's about damn time they did this, it worked great in Dragon age since even without a meter to tell me if I am good or bad I could still feel evil if I did evil things. Like that one section in Redcliff. I felt so evil afterwards.

Sooo.... If you're just going to add the scores together, what the hell is the point? Whether you pick renegade or paragon, you-re going to have the same outcome. This is giving you less choice, not more.
You're going to have the same points, but obviously a renagade action and a paragon action are not the same. The only difference between this and the old system is that you don't have to play all blue or all red to persuade at higher levels.

It took long enough imo. Hopefully WRPGs start to move away from meta-gamy good/evil systems.

Oh dear God, game developers are starting to listening to Yahtzee...I'm sure if I'm stoked or scared...Oh I'm stoked that you can mix classes, that's a freaking awesome idea, (Probably still gonna go pure Paragon because...I like doing that) but everyone doing what Yahtzee wants....Bit of a double edged sword.

Ok, then I have to ask, what is the point of the Morality system at all? In Kotor it affected what branches of the force you could get into, in ME it just seems tacked on and useless. Getting to punch some random lady in the mouth is nice and all (stay classy shep), but what the hell is the point if there aren't any consequences?
Because the RP in RPG stands for role playing. Now people can create the Shepard with the personality that they always wanted without being punished.

YESSSSSS!!!!!!

FINALLY!!!!

Now I can be my usual 80% Paragon, 20% renegade Shepard and not be screwed over!

Because it DID screw me over. Not having enough paragon screwed me up with Jack and Miranda's cat fight, causing Miranda to lose loyalty. Which ultimately led to Miranda getting Legion killed in the final mission, which forced me to retry it as soon as I realized why he died.

Freakin Miranda...She decides to put all of my work trying to be Jack's first actual friend (Not romance, I was pursuing Tali) by being a total !@#ch to Jack, then has her little hissy fit, then practically DEMANDS I make her fire team leader (when I was planning taking Garrus), and then gets someone killed when I do. I really don't like that woman. I really don't.
