That's why they would try to release something that isn't quite a handheld, just a PDA with fancy looking games on it. Nintendo have a strong footing in the handheld market but Microsoft could muscle in on it if they are clever about it and don't quite take them head-on.
Been done and it was awesome. The Tapwave Zodiac. Bad marketing and low developer support, though.

I honestly DOUBT being able to play 360 games on it.
not so fast, psp can play ps3 games on it via remote play, i could see MS following suit. this is a feature of the ps3 and psp not touted enough by sony, and not supported enough by devs.
i jus crapped my pants the first time i played lair on my psp.
How were the controls with the PSP rather than the motion control?

We all know its bound to happen, so what games do you think would be made for it and what would its "gimmick" be?
Obviously, it needs an overheating problem, where the lights start to glow white hotin a full circle. It will be called a Halo.
NOTICE: Handheld strictly intended for use in either north or south pole.
I found this all the more amusing when I examined your avatar.

Tell that to Sony and Apple.
I said MICROSOFT Wasn't stupid, I don't think Sony or Apple would get the hint.

It's not commercially viable this is Nintendo's Forte.

With no Offence intended, That feels like an ignorant Statement sir. Microsoft, apple, and Sony have come a very long way! They are very competent.

Nintendo was always a strong Fighter but Sony Playstation 1 outdid them, so did playstation 2, and give it another year and 3 will as well. Sure Wii Sold more units, but, and this is a really big BUT in fact, When you sell them for literally a third the price of your competition, Yeah they are going to have more units sold! Silly enough I enjoy my psp and Ds. We Like to hunt down N-gage's and Light them on fire for being so evil. (sorry off topic here a little bit)
I think that With enough put in to it. Microsoft could make a decent Hand Held. I can see a touch screen, a wide assortment of games, Prolly a form of X-box Live too!

To be honest I think an interesting idea with that might be to just make a hand held Slightly bigger then they're current controllers and the gimmick could be that you can play it as a hand Held or use it for your X-box. or BOTH!

This is a chart using the size of the device to show relative sales. (i wish it included psp, but i've only seen one person use a psp, ever.)
Microsoft knows this, but I doubt they manage to turn out anything fun to compete in a handheld market. It will just be a zune with extra buttons, targeted at the people who don't even play handhelds.

In an uncertain World, Certainty is as uncertain as it can most certainly be.
I am simply pointing out that Consoles were also they're "Forte".
Remember How Devestating regular and Super nintendo were?
Only Time can tell if Microsoft will unleashed a Beast called handheld. My point stemming from my previous post here Though. Is that while they are not at the big ?Handheld? party, Neither were Sony when they made the playstation. So to assume that Nintendo has the handheld market is as I said at the opening of this post. In an uncertain World, Certainty is as uncertain as it can most certainly be.

While i generally agree, gir, that the big names each generation only tend to retain dominance for a generation or two-- atari, nintendo, then sega, then sony, now nintendo again (im sure we can come up with a more accurate timeline)-- has there ever really been a time that nintendo DIDN'T dominate the handheld market?

Oh, and my GBA still plays my tetris game that came with my original gameboy I received in 1988 ish... like im going to buy someone elses handheld. hah as long as it still plays side scrolling metroid games and that damn tetris cartridge im sold.

Microsoft just isn't that stupid. They realize that it's hard enough to compete in the console market (they just can't seem to get out of that second-place rut). Plus, they're also competing in/dominating the home PC market. It would be foolish for them to try and compete in three different markets, despite Microsoft's vast funds. Trying to support too many consoles/systems will result in a loss of profit and the release of terrible titles (which was what did Sega in). If Microsoft has any sense, they'll leave failing at the handheld market to Sony.

Firstly, Thank you.
I still have my regular Nintendo with Zelda, Final Fantasy 1, Dragon Warrior 1,2, and 3, and Metroid. I got back in 90's.

Secondly, It is Very True that Nintendo has always truly Dominated the hand-held compartment. Game boy, Game boy pocket, Game boy color, Game boy advance, Game boy SP, Game boy DS, Game boy DS Lite.... My god one more and they can start they're own football team!
But Still, While they have a very strong Empire as far as Hand-helds go. Given enough time, Would you Agree that while not probable it is still possible for a "Now under new management" sign?
