You have a point - Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell have said that the first Evil Dead movie was not meant to be funny, but turned out that way due to how their youthful exuberance made them exaggerate everything.Chairman Miaow said:the goofiness only becomes intentional after the first film, which is absolutely appaling.face_head_mouth said:Those films aren't bad movies, though - they were made on a low-budget, but most of the goofiness is intentional, and there is a lot of real imagination and ingenuity in them, along with some great physical comedy.Chairman Miaow said:All Evil Dead films.
We will have to agree to disagree on the 'appalling' part - the movie is not as good as the second one, there are a few dull stretches and everyone except Bruce Campbell sucks in the acting department. However, the camerawork is legitimately innovative, there is a real sense of atmosphere and there are many effective and outrageous scenes (especially once Ash is alone, in the latter half of the film).
Another movie for the list: Zardoz. Featuring Sean Connery in a red diaper and a giant, flying stone head that dispenses guns.
