Hi. I have cable and was wondering if I can connect another PC into a phone jack using an RJ11 (both male) to plug it in directly to the computer. Or will it fry the PC when the phone rings? Or will the internet just not work?

Let me try to explain the first part better. I have a computer in my family room that is connected via modem to a cable hookup. The room I want to put the new PC only has a phone jack and not a cable. Is there any way to hook it up? What do I need?
Thank you in advance, this is really driving me up the wall.

Hmmm...
I'm not the best person for this but if anything I can try to help.
If anything just to be on the safe side I'd invest in grabbing a wireless router for other PC's in the house. if the computer does fry if the phone rings then you'd be screwed over.

You can probably find both of them cheaply around PC stores and its the cheaper alternative if anything does happen to the PC.

To use the technical term, it will do dick all.

Well, if your cable modem happens to be a modem/router combo, you're in luck. If not you're going to need a router... and unless you like ethernet cable running all over your place, you'll want a wireless router and if you go wireless you'll probably have to grab some a Wireless Access Point (WAP) for each PC you want to hook into the router (although a lot of wireless router models also accept ethernet cable connection as well, so if you've got 1 PC that can be ethernet connects and 1 PC that needs wireless connection you'll only need 1 WAP).

What you need to do is connect your router to the cable modem and then connect both PCs to router (via either ethernet cable or wifi). That gives both PC access to the modem and, if you feel the need, you can network the PCs together for data sharing and so forth.

Oh good, I have the combo. I'll make sure to give it a try! Thanks!
