that sounds ok but what about the touchiness about prisoner camps?

If you show to much of the reality it gets a high age rating.
If you show to little you get some angry jews complaining about making the nazies seem slightly nice.
They're not prison camps. They're death camps made to kill Jewish women and children, and whatever else Hitler didn't like, homosexuals, political opponents, gypsies and the handicapped. I can see why theres touchiness about them really.

I was sold on this game as soon as I read 'Irish'and I'd like to see a world war 1 game.

Sorry got a bit sidetracked, I've been thinking this whole week about allied prisoners in German prison camps and Rowan Atkinson.(don't ask why)
So i mixed up the POW camps and Death Camps.

Interesting because a comedy in the UK called 'Blackadder' has Rowen Atkinson in it, and they once revealed in a documentary that they planned on making a 5th series in which they were POW's during WW2.

The only WWII games I'd buy now are ones about the war from a German army soldier or French/Italian resistance point of view, in an almost Splinter Cell style of gameplay, minus the linearity.

I'm hoping that someone will come out with a good WWI (THERE WAS A WORLD WAR ONE? GASP.) game someday soon, though. That would be a welcome change of scenery.

A new direction for WW2 Games should take a page from the dinosaurs. What's wrong with saboteur stuff in a fictional world with fictional bad guys? Why must we continue to kill nazi's over and over.

I want to see a game that describes the events post WW1 but pre WW2 to see how it came to be, You jump in to the body of a Chinese man trying to save his family from an invading Japanese force in Manchuria... then, an Italian women, evading a gang of Blackshirts in Italy who are after you for expressing your political points of view of a Democracy. A Jewish youth in Nazi-Germany? A Japanese scholar studying in Hiroshima right before the A-bombs are dropped? Hell, this could start a whole franchise... I'm sick of straight up shooting Nazis and Japs as U.S. and British

Sorry if this is utterly riddled with spelling errors, the school computer doens't have a spell check.

I wanna play a WW2 game where the Nazis have zombies on their side. Wait, I did. It was called Return to Castle Wolfenstein and it kicked ass.

Go for something a little out there and away from the been there done that of WW2 shooters.

You could make a Fighting Jack Churchill [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Churchill] game.

He fought with a sword. Not some POS fencing sword but a fucking claymore! He also got WWIIs only kill with a bow and arrow.

Like Braveheart stranded in Saving private Ryan.

He was gutted when WWII ended as he'd not kicked enough ass yet. He thought he could get another 10 years of war in if the yanks hadnt turned up. Epic levels of badassery.

In my opinion, I am alright with games set in WW2 Europe, but only as long as they stay away from the "Saving Private Ryan" American bravado in Europe. I think the best new direction for WW2 games are in one of two categories.

Firstly it is the focus on different fronts. Sure the Western Front was big, but nothing is in comparison to the sheer scale of the Eastern Front. Whereas in the west the Allies and Axis fought with a semblance of decency, the East was a brutal fight to the death. A game that could capture the feeling of the desperate battles that took place in Russia and Eastern Europe, from Moscow to Berlin and from Leningrad to Stalingrad, without making it needlessly complex, like with Red October, then that could be an interesting way forward.

The second option is to try different gameplay styles. I remember the Escapist doing an article on the Nazi's in gaming and the need for the gaming industry to mature from seeing the Nazi's as cannon fodder that can be disposed of at will because of their historic villainy. The example that the author gave was a modification of the zombie survival mode in Call of Duty: World at War, but instead setting it in Warsaw during the Warsaw Uprising, playing Polish resistance fighters defending a house against the seemingly limitless flood of German soldiers. Another example is where actually play German soldiers and armed civilians defending Berlin against the Soviet juggernaut.

Sadly, I know that the vast majority of the American gaming community greatly prefer their "America #1" style of WW2 games instead of the more desirable (IMHO) games. I also understand that not all American gamers agree with that, but there are a huge amount that would rather fight in Normandy than in the Ukraine. A shame.

I'd like another Sniper Elite game for the PS3/ 360.
The original was nails, a real change from the usual run 'n' gun.

That's exactly why I've being thinking about Rowan Atkinson, i read about the ideas for a fifth series on wikipedia a few days ago.(When trying to find out where they filmed Blackadder the first)
Though they were considering having it about a music band called the Black Adder 5 i remember.
Though it's unlikely they'll ever bother since Hugh Laurie is doing well as "Doctor House"

I would like a game where you are in the resistance in France.

Why hasn't there been a WW2 beat 'em up? Who wouldn't want a game where you can smack Mussolini about as Neville Chamberlain?

The Saboteur looks really cool, I recently read about it to, but I do feel it could go one way or the other quite easily.

Maybe one where you play from the Axis's point of view. Like with the allies in the Call of Duty games; you play as a British, American, and Russian soldier (or at least you did in the second one... I think). This game would play as a Japanese, Italian, and German soldier. Or they could drop it all and make a Vietnam game, or WW1 game, or even an Iraq game (technically in CoD4 but never specified).

sorry to break it to you, but sabatour IS velvet assassin.
For some stupid reason they thought the super bad ass open world/black and white thing wasn't cool i guess, so they changed it to velvet assassin.
But yea its pretty cool. i'll be preordering it ASAP.
I totally agree with the saving private ryan though. they should do some of the romanticized WWII stuff, OR if they try to keep it real they should bring the focus onto other groups, such as the Russians, or maybe resistance fighters. Hell, even africa would be cool. or playing the axis powers...
I think that you just made a little slip. Velvet Assassins working title was Sabotage.

Its a nice idea but i doubt it will catch on

I like the sounds of a completely different story with maybe WW2 linked into it but its only a cover or a back story

Anyone seen full metal alchemist? When Ed crosses the gate near the end it turns out the people who died in WW2 where 'fuel' for alchemy on the other side of the gate, i thought that was an awesome link =D

I would like to see developers put the tired ww2 setting at rest and maybe try something differnt like WWI or Vietnam.
I can't see a world war 1 game being much good. Half the time you wouldn't even be able to see the enemies from your trench, where you would probably spend a great deal of time, though I suppose going over the top might be interesting (in a terrible sort of way.)

like most of the other people on this thread i think the ww2 theme should be laid to rest for a while, but at least in The Sabatour you dont have to play as an american for once.
