How many of you grew up with violent games as your first? During my last little questioning, I found ALOT of people's first games were Doom, Duke Nukem, and other similar games (on girl said her GRANDMA was playing Duke and that got her interested). So, I wondered if that was the same for everybody... so did you blast some demon point blank in the face in bloody pixelated glory as your baptism to gaming?

I guess that you mostly ask people around your age.

My first game was a Frogger clone. I didn't see a first person shooters until after I had left school.

I played the first top down Grand Theft Auto when I was 4. I laughed evertime I ran people over, my parents not caring. Than I got the first Tomb Raider, and my p;arents thought it was corrupting my mind.

The first game that I can remember playing with any regularity was Sonic the Hedgehog on the Mega Drive. So no, not really.

Well, bear in mind that Duke Nuke-'Em wasn't a first person shooter until it's third installment. It was a side-scroller before that. My first games were all pretty E for Everyone games, though my uncle did give me Doom 2 for christmas when I was 8 or 9. I was pretty happy about that one, but it was far from my first video game.

Here is the link to my first thread http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.185355-A-question-to-all-girl-gamers

I asked all girl gamers how they got into gaming, I was not trying to get into any paticular age group...

My dad would play Doom occasionally, but I never played it. I mostly played Magic School Bus games and first party Nintendo games for the N64. The first violent game that I played often was probably 007 Nightfire for the Gamecube.

Doom back when I was 4. I don't think it messed me up at all. *Murders someone and bathes in their blood*

Define violent. In the early 80's, games like Defender and Space Invaders were considered violent. One of my first games was Sea Wolf [http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=9459], which would have been considered violent at the time.

I started with Moon Rover (i think?) and things like Math Blaster and Mario Bros. So, some of those are about as violent as you get at the time, which is to say not at all by today's standards.

Yes. Pitfall was the most violent game ever. Rattlesnakes? Check. Alligators? Check. Pits? Check.

All the death in that game was so very dark. It did indeed warp my mind.

My very first game was Super Mario Bros.

So unless stomping on Goombas counts as 'Violent' then no, not so much.
