My first games where C64 games. And you couldn't really call any of them violent. I can't even remember them.

My first game was a sidescroller game called Titus the Fox.
The controls were arrow buttons and space bar. Push down and press space to pick up objects and you press space bar again to toss the item. up was jump and ladder climbing and down was duck or go down into sewer and down the ladder

If you find throwing bottles and buckets into your enemies violent, then my answer would be yes, I grew up with a rather violent game.

First game was... half life, i think?

Last time i played that i was in a dark vent and a head crab jumped at me when i pointed my flash light at it.

Being about 5 i fell off the chair in pure terror.

Damn i miss that game, kids now a days have it to easy with games.

The first videogame I played was Crash Bandicoot, for the PSOne. Now, when was the first time I killed someone in a videogame? I'm not completely sure, to be honest. It might have been the original Tomb Raider.

when I was really little, it was mega man, and mario.

Then when I hit about 9 or 10, Mortal Kombat 3 came out, and I got that for the SNES, and my mom made me return it.

at about the same time, I got Diablo for the PC (which I LOVED), but my mom made me return that as well.

3 years later or so, I was playing a LOT of Warcraft 2, Starcraft, Diablo (yes I got Diablo again a couple years after having to return it.. I don't even think my mom knew that she let me have a game that she had banned, but I loved it so I wasn't going to say anything).. Some Quake as well (Primarily Team Fortress and Future Versus Fantasy)

(If you're interested, as late as 2006 people were still playing FvF, which is one of those mods that DIDN'T get picked up, but was a HUGE fan favorite of the Quake Modding scene - http://fvfonline.com/#info)

Once I was about 14, my parent's censoring wasn't an issue anymore, so I could play with whatever I was. So to answer the topic's question, from about the age of 10, I tipped my toes into violent games, and by the age of 14, I played mostly violent games.. now I play pretty much anything.

I grew up with a pair of 2D sidescrolling shooters: Biomenace and Crystal Caves, both of which I was playing at a very young age. Oh, and I also remember the original Warcraft as being a formative experience for me, followed by StarFox and Zelda on the N64 a while later. Good times. In fact, I can't remember playing a single non-violent game before I was a teenager.

I think I turned out all right.
