My very first game was Resident Evil 1.. or 2. I remember running around collecting emblems..

Anyway yeah I guess my first was violent, although I technically didn't own it. Played it with a friend.

I started with Pokemon Yellow... not exactly a traumatizing game. (Although those ghosts in Lavender Town did kinda freak me out for some odd reason). Actually, due to very strict parents, I didn't actually play anything too violent until about age 13. Kinda sad, I know.

The first games I played were all on Atari ST and none of them were any more violent than nes and snes games. When I moved on to pc I played wolfenstien etc. The earliest violent games I played (I would have been 10-12) were Duke Nukem 3D and GTA (I didn't play doom but I did play quake 1,2+3).

Hm one of my firsts was Super Dodgeball for the NES, and, like any good game of dodgeball, it let you whack the other team around. Does that count?

The first game I remember playing was either Doom or some kind of side-scrolling shooter on DOS. I also recall when I first played Half-Life, I got so scared of headcrabs that I couldn't play. They'd leap at me and I'd scream (I was under 10 at the time, can't remember exactly how old though).

I can't officially remember my first game, but I do remember playing House of the Dead when I was really little on the home system alongside Mortal Kombat. But then again I was probably even desensitized by then. *Shrug*

The first game that I ever remember playing is Rodland for the Amiga. Not exactly violent. Quite the opposite, really. It's very pink, and cute. I don't remember playing too many violent games, not until the PS1 anyways, which was pretty late (I think I was 6 at the time).
However, my dad did get me RE2 for my 8th birthday, and I've never looked back. Good times! :)

I think the first game I ever played was called Y's. Was an old RPG, pretty sure it's long forgotten. Not sure it would qualify as violent. Top down, random battles, 8-bit. Gotta love it.

When I was young, there were no personal computers. The first few games I did play were a few question and answer games on an IBM mainframe during an IBM open house function. They were simplistic and there were bugs in some of the logic that made the answers to certain questions wrong even when they were correctly answered.
I practiced writing assembly language for 8080 on paper and visualized the results when I was 15.
My first PC was a cheap XT clone I repaired when it failed shortly after the customer bought it and had to scrap it. I played tetris on it as well as that text mode graphics dungeons and dragons game that made the rounds. I used debug to edit the player data file to increase my necessary resources (hit points etc) to cheat on that one once I was bored with it. Years later I set up BBS systems (this was before the WWW existed although the internet was already available to a lucky few) and set up and played multiplayer games like Legend of the Red Dragon. I even managed to get multinode working so two or more could play against each other in real time. That was very new at the time and a big deal. Having multiple modems working in one computer was a bit tricky and usually required special expensive hardware (or someone like me with an X-acto knife and a soldering iron)
Theres a lot since then but that was my initiation into the gaming world.

My first real gaming memory was watching my dad play Diablo. I'd stay up late and watch him slaughter demons and fiends and stuff. I remember one night, it must have been one in the morning, my dad comes into my room and tells me to get up and go downstairs. See, he had just beaten the game for the first time and he wanted me to be there for the final cutscene, because it was OUR victory. If you might recall, the ending cutscene for Diablo wasn't something most people would consider "kid stuff". My dad was awesome like that.

The first game I ever played was StarFox 64. Not the most violent game ever, but I was shooting people.

My first game was The 7th Guest. I guess that's violent, but not interactively. I mean, people are dying, but you're just watching, not actually doing it.

My first game was battle chess. when you capture the king with a bishop, the king gets sliced to pieces. pawn x knight, knight gets stabbed in his man-bits. rook x queen, rook (typical hulking stone golem) picks up queen and eats her. i don't think it twisted me too much, but i'm much more colorful when i'm losing at chess now.

Quake 2 and its mission packs were my firsts, followed by Mortal Kombat on the genesis, followed by plenty of less violent games like the Sonic games.

My first ever game was "The Logical Journey of the Zoombinies". Ah, I still have fond memories of that one. No violence in that.
