Now I don't agree with everything it says by any means, but it presents some valid criticisms. There is some pretty mind-numbing, demeaning bullshit which passes for popular "entertainment". Though at least no-one is forced to watch it at gunpoint, and that makes Western countries infinitely preferable to North Korea.

The world would be much better off without all this trash culture. *sigh*

I stopped watching a third of the way through. Didn't hate it, just got bored. All it's doing is repeating what most people already know.
the video should be called "stupid crap celebrities do & other blatantly obvious stuff"
I don't know why they had to pull the slavery card on Micheal Jackson though. That seemed unnecessary.

The modern capitalistic and consumerist culture is scum, simple as that.

Though know that I could make a much more valid video criticizing North-Korea.

While they say it's a critisism of Capitalism, I feel like, as a Swedish person, it doesn't really affect me. The video is more like "U.S.A sucks, North Korea is best Korea."

Can't deny the facts. A lot of our pop culture and media is a heap of shit. At least we have the freedom to change the channels or go to a different website unlike some countries..

I real-life laughed-out-loud at "trained monkey collaborators of death". That's some quality writing.

I've only watched the first couple of minutes, but I'm already morbidly curious. Kind of amazing how it doesn't actually need to make anything up. I mean it's biased in that it's only reporting the very worst parts of society, but it's not exaggerating or taking anything out of context. It's a fair warning in a way. Next time you hear bad about another nation, think how easy it is to make somewhere look like a hell hole to the less informed. You don't even need to lie; just report all the worst bits and gloss over any advantages of the system.

Edit: Haha, just got to the Jordan bit "despite my research, it seems clear that she doesn't actually do... anything".

Edit2: Keeps getting better... Paris Hilton: "this narcissistic parasite..."

This is the kind of stuff that genuinely frustrates me. Our culture and our entertainment, even if some of it is of rather low quality, is not a sign of how bad we are but rather a sign of how privileged we are to live in this society. No one is forced to agree with someone elses idea of high quality entertainment and everyone can watch or listen to whatever he wants, no matter what society thinks of it.

I mean, i do realise that this video is just some banana republic trying to look good by making other countries look bad and hopefully make it's own citizens happier about having to eat their own shoes to survive but still...

I love how they said that Arnie won't be president because of his affair and not, you know, the fact that he was born in Austria.

Also, North Korea just can't handle Tyra Banks.

Inb4 Obama is kenyan

OT:

Seriously, what IS North Korea's problem? I'm certain that if they tried they could love celebrities and people only famous because they are famous just like us, if not better!

Also, NK simply is not prepared for Tyra Banks.

Yeah, I'm gonna go with this. Still, seeing all the shitty aspects of our culture like that, one after the other...It's pretty depressing. Some people are fucking stupid.

Maybe you should turn that fancy mirror on yourself, Dear Mighty North Korea. You'd probably turn to stone right after you vommited your intestines out.

Also funny how they call Arnie and Reagan B-grade actors when their own Beloved Leader was a C-grade director.

If someone from US had made this exact same video: "Yeah man totally agree with this, so true, etc etc"
But sadly this video came from a Korean: "LOL u r korean ur country is lame, look at urself first".

Arnie? A B-grade celebrity?
You crazy fools. You guys can stay locked up if you have the nerve to insult one of the greatest actors of this world. Have you not seen Commando? Good! You never will now. HMPH!

Poking fun at your own culture is a little different to having a dig at someone else's.

I don't want to take this too seriously because North Korea is often hilarious and I'm sure the video is mildly entertaining but even if North Korea wasn't regarded as somewhat bananas you understand that basic principle, right?

I completely agree with the video. There is majority of the population that DO watch this trash and are sleepwalking. True, there is no one forcing you but when you are born/grow up in a culture like this it's hard to brake the chain. There is always a few exceptions.

It comes down to nurture over nature. It's all a balancing act.

But the thing is, if you subtracted the Korean guy and simply narrated the whole video in the translator's voice (and titled the video "A critique of Western media")...what would people say about this video? It would be impossible to say exactly who was having a dig at western culture :p

I lost my shit at:

"Trained Monkey Collaborators of Death"

I also like how they have to clarify that the picture progression of Michael Jackson isn't "trickery"

But you know what North Korea? You have a point about the lack of education thing. I mean, you guys have it right in many ways. You have education, a strong government and lot's of food for everyo- OH WAIT.
