A persistent problem with my Xbox 360.

I had my first 360 for about 11 months when it finally gave up on me in November 2007. I was playing Forza 2 when it happened; the game suddenly froze onscreen with no audio of any kind, and only shutting off the system removed the image. However, the 360 got the RROD almost immediately after.

Here's where the problem starts. Forza 2 started freezing, in the same way as it did the first time, with alarming frequency on my new 360. By this point the disc was pretty well scratched, so I bought another copy, but the problems persisted. I've heard about freezing problems with the game, but those happen in the menus; this happens only during races.

The problem is not exclusive to Forza 2. Half Life 2 Episode One has frozen once in the exact same way, and GRID did so three times. Far Cry 2 has frozen twice during a saving/loading screen. Midnight Club: Los Angeles also freezes persistently, but the audio remains when this happens and removing the disc removes the frozen image.

My Xbox 360 still works just fine, except for these occasional freezes. Does anyone have any idea what's happening or what I can do? Anyone else experience similar problems? Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: I haven't noted the temperature of the 360 (at least recently) while playing any of these games. The games freeze with no predictability; sometimes soon after I boot the system up, and sometimes after I've been playing for a while.
Also, I have a 20GB hard drive, so I won't install any games until Alan Wake comes out.

How warm is your 360 when this happens?

I admit it's probably not an overheating problem, but anything's possible.

I had the same problem. Just got some compressed air and sprayed it where the vents / fans are. shifted a load of dust out and seems to work fine now.

Just over heating due to dust in the sinks / fans.
