Hello fellow Escapists, my name is Normalguy, and I'm here to complain about how some of you who are complaining. A few weeks ago, a show by the name of Jimquisition was created. This has been met with severe criticism regarding the format, style, and general point of the show. What I mainly want to say, is that if a new show pops up and you dislike it, it's completely unnecessary to say how much you hate it, why everyone should hate it, why it shouldn't be on The Escapist etc. If you dislike a show, state what it should improve on, and move along. If the show is so terrible you are never going to watch again(And some of you feel that way about Jimquisition, that is perfectly fine and your personal preferance is not wrong in any shape or form!)then just do so, no need to leave in your post that you plan too, all your doing is causing more discontent among users and insulting the work entirely. All I'm asking, is if you truly dislike shows such as Jimquisiton, Game Dogs, etc. just use constructive criticism, instead of outright flaming the show.
I agree, which is why I've said time and time again that constructive criticism regarding the Escapist's content is more than welcome and most of them take it to them and appreciate it, while criticism just for the sake of criticism will get you an easy ban.

Pretty much this.

But you know us escapists. Gotta include that extra bit of critism so we all come across as witty and unique and intelligent people or whatever the reason is.
I see it everywhere here.

OT: I'm no saint but I direct my whiney bullshit and other whiney bullshitters. I cant argue with a Video series that actually made it onto The Escapist in the first place.
I respect the site and its choices but a few of the herds that follows it never fails to dissapoint me.

I would say something about overwhelming negative response getting rid of disliked content, but it's still there, so I suppose I'm incorrect.
They sign contracts. The only way it'd go away if it was so utterly hated that a large portion of Escapist visitors refused to come back to the site, should the content still be there.

More on topic: it can be hard to voice an opinion on Jim, given that his numerous and well known sexist escapades are off-topic and can land you in mod-hot-water.
They don't sign contracts with perpetual terms. Shows that attract hits or are considered important by the editors are renewed. Those that meet neither of these conditions are not. They haven't signed some sort of suicide pact that says they have to stick with the show unless it causes the site to fade into obsolescence.

Everything needs proper reviewing. (And I mean proper reviewing not 'this is shit. kthnx bye') Say I write a story and, obviously, I'm proud of it I think it's great. However someone may point out to me "You need to edit the description on blah blah and use another word like..." if I take that and edit it and it makes it better, then what's the harm?

Sure I've never watched the show, just doesn't seem my kind of thing but I don't think people should just not say anything and sit there quietly if there's something that needs fixing otherwise what's the point of a comment box?

I'm almost certain Jim's Twitter (which I read so as to easier call him out on his sexist opinions, which he often posts, jokes or not) mentioned he had signed a contract that meant he had to make a certain number of shows. It was only after those shows were made that he could be fired. Not sure about those shows having to be displayed or not.
I don't have twitter. Twitter sucks.

Disregarding that, so? Of course they didn't put him on a show-by-show basis. They contracted him for a limited number of shows. If they don't feel the content adds value to the site, they won't renew his contract. Simple as that.

You're absolutely right! Why should we try to have a say in how the community that we're a part of is perceived? Why should we try to improve things we feel give the website a negative image? Why should we be an active part of a community? We should all just comment on videos by saying "That was funny!" or "I liked that!" or "Gee that was neato!" or maybe even so far as "I didn't like it that much". We should just be passive observers with no opinions and let shows that we hate propagate on the website we love.

/sarcasmic

Not that I hate Jimquisition, I think he's actually very reasonable and has been overhyped as being 'controversial' because he makes a few off-color jokes. But telling people they shouldn't criticize things is like telling The Escapist it shouldn't be a community.

honestly believe the Escapist is the "Number one forum for intelligence and Maturity."
That seems like a bigger issue than the complaints, really
I see my sarcasm is being taken as honest beliefs. Damn internet and it's inability to translate vocal queues.

I honestly just think it is angry criticism, people that make crap videos need people to tell them off or they are just wasting their time

This should be printed in bold on every web browser.
Agreed.

OT: Criticism is something the internet likes a lot. Yes it annoying but attempting to change this would be like trying to take on a rhino with a ball-point pen and a shoe. It's not worth getting annoyed at because, sadly, it's inevitable.
We were like this before the internet, it was just the threat of physical punishment that kept us in line. Now that the people we're pissing off could be thousands of kilometers away... As for the show itself, I don't agree with many of the things he says but that doesn't mean I'm up at arms about it. Strangely, I don't feel the need to ***** for the sake of bitching. I must be assimilated.

I feel the same. Just because I never met the people on the internet doesn't mean I can complain to them about it. I'd really like to see an internet where everyone thinks this...
