I think the better question is why the hell you have to beat five guys when they called the 'Elite 4'. There have never been 4 of them, always 5. Anyways, I assume that champion is more like a hired position then just the best guy. I assume that there are lots of guys who can beat the elite 4 but they don't make the new guy the champion every time, they just say 'congrats' and keep the current guy. Deciding the champion could be an entirely different event.

Anywho, I've always thought forcing people to use one of there Pokemon's 4 move slots in order to use an HM was dumb. Why not have it so HMs can be used without having to teach them to a Pokemon or something?
I'd suggest to read the Pokemon Adventures manga someday. There it all does make more sense (the inventor of Pokemon himself suggests that every Pokemon fan should read this manga because there they created the kind of world they wanted to create but couldn't due to limitations [be it technical or from Nintendo themselfs]).

The Pokemon league is completely seperate from the Elite 4 and goes like a traditional tournament (like the upcoming tournament feature in Black 2 / White 2).
The Elite 4 are just a group of 4 of the strongest trainers in the region who have actually a goal they work for.

I hope that someday they adapt more ideas from the manga. I'd really like to see a traditional tournament as the final challenge before facing off the champion. It would challenge my skills a little more than just reading up on the movesets of the Elite 4.
It's funny because the manga takes a heavy dose of inspiration from the stuff in the games. (as apposed to the anime which more or less makes its own PKMN universe/ parallel reality/etc.)

What I want in generation 6 is for HMs to become a tool that you can use rather than a move you have to teach to a Pokemon. Pokemon have precious few move slots and the HMs generally aren't useful in a serious build. Additionally it forces you to take with you Pokemon that you wouldn't normally use just because they can learn the HMs. The ability to join the bad guys and follow an evil storyline would be extremely awesome too.
I actually like the way generation 5 handled this, and pretty much fixed the problem as far as I'm concerned. In gen 5 there are much fewer obstacles that require you to have the appropriate HM. The few times you do need HMs are usually just to reach items and not to progress through routes. Even surf isn't necessary to traverse most of the map, which is historically unprecedented.

since the op seems to have been answered i like the idea of being able to create/design your own gym and train new trainers, or maybe something like a pokemon refuge centre.

If you enjoyed Gen 5, then more power to you. I just didn't and I want to move on. Also, I was not aware of a save file transfer. How does that work?
Ah thats understandable, i felt the same way about gen 3!

Oh well say you get white 2 and you have a copy of white 1, and you finished it, if you have 2 DS's you can transfer your memory from the prequel to its sequel. Which will give you extra items and extra cutscenes explaining what happened to some of the characters inbetween the 2 games, and i can only assume that means that if you come across the protagonist from the first game he/she will be whatever gender you played as in the first game and will most likely have the pokemon you started out with. Same for when you come across your rival as i believe he might be a gym leader now?. So its a preety cool feature, its surprising to see it in a pokemon game though!

I just always assumed that you have the choice to refuse the official champion spot and return it to the previous champion (although this does get screwed over in Kanto where your rival would become the champion after you refuse the spot).

As for Gen 6, I'd like to see a fully explorable map from the start and all gyms have set levels dependent on how many badges you have. So your first gym would be level ~10, second would be ~17, third would be ~20, and so one. Each gym would have the same pokemon, just at different levels.

HMs should be changed into either some kind of item that can be used on command or removed from the game completely. They serve no purpose other than blocking off certain areas of the map until a certain point and often destroy movesets unless you have an HM slave.

Also, the walking pokemon deal from Yellow and HG/SS was a pretty cool feature. Plus customization of your character would be cool too.

I kinda wondered that too. I think it would be kinda cool to stay the champion. Yeah, if you had to stand that that room it would be boring as hell, but I'd like it if I got phone calls every now and then asking me to come to the Pokemon league to defend my title.

I would like to see a total competitive-focused Pokemon game, where all Pokemon can be accessed right from the start for you to tweak and configure to your liking. You don't have to level them or EV train them, you can set those by yourself along with their moves and just battle. It cuts out the main barrier of entry, being training Pokemon, and allows you to get straight into the meta which is where most of the fun is to be had.

Either that or a Pokemon game where a Nuzlocke mode is built into the game, that would be really cool.

As others have said, just for replay value, but I guess you could say you still want to go out and catch all the Pokemon, so the Champion you beat stays to fill the spot.

As for Gen 6, your idea about a 3DS game with a Pokemon Colosseum appearance would be pretty awesome. Although, games can look awfully nice in complete 2D and still be easy to run, like Rayman Origins (I think that's just like 3 layers of 2D images) or Paper Mario games (obviously without the paper-thin characters).

My ideas:

First and most importantly - remove stealth rock completely and make it impossible to trade any pokemon who knows it. I shouldn't have to justify why an attack that instantly makes certain type combinations completely unusable is stupid especially when the whole point of the game is you have a huge choice for your team.

Second - less water types. More poison and ghost types.

Third - for fuck sake enough with the roaming legendaries already.

Fourth - anyone who suggests introducing something as bullshitty as Feebas should be immediately fired.

Agreed. So much. I'm tired of taking the Normal Pokemon from Route 1 as my HM Slave for half of the game.

I want this, too. I mean, with how incredibly successful and powerful the player character becomes, you could pretty much lay waste to the entire world.

Just imagine...if Red had joined Team Rocket...

I would really love to see a fully 3D world for roaming about in. Also, agree with many of the above such as HM changes, character customisation, all regions, ability to join bad guys etc.
I mean, that last one sorta makes sense. Let's face it, the NPCs laud you as being so strong because you love your Pokémon and take such good care of them, but in actuality you've got hundreds of them in a box somewhere and are just as bad as anyone else :3

I guess the champion stays, as your character didn't want to, or everytime you take a pokemon league challenge, the champion does the same and ends out on top..., I don't know.

For gen 6? Hmmm... I guess the 3rd gen will get remakes during this fifth gen, so...

Gamefreak, for gen 6, gief me a pokemon game which have all the regions and the possibility to catch 'em all in one game (like thats ever going to happen...).

For new pokemons, I just have the one wish for new eveelutions.
