I facepalmed both at the people who keep yelling "Stop dicking around with our holdiday" when it wasn't yours to begin with, and all the people who ignored the post like two pages in that shows the whole thing was likely just made up.

^ With you all the way Zamiel.

Buuuut lemme just slap my good ol' opinion up here right quick.

All of this bull about "ruining our holidays" by choosing to change the names is just ridiculous. No one is really celebrating Easter because the name is Easter. No one is coloring the eggs because they are called eggs. You do these things because it's tradition, and because your parents smashed it into your skull that you need to do this. For Christians, it's because it celebrates the resurrection of their lord. If their lord could see how desperately they cling to consumerism and petty names of holidays, he'd probably be ashamed. For Pagans, it's about the tradition itself, and about taking part in the ritual.

Getting offended by what some people choose to do is just disgusting. We're not all 100% Christian in this country, and I could see how some people would want to make these holidays a bit more inclusive to other faiths. It's just a kind thing to do given how frantically Easter is jammed down our throats. Buy this, buy that! It's Easter, better buy an Easter basket and an Easter Bunny and eggs and chocolate! For a country supposedly celebrating its diversity, we're shamefully marketing purely to Christians.

Acting like it's some big "war on all that is good in the world" is just plain arrogant. And do note that I find it silly to be offended by Easter as the name of the celebration; I just find it sillier to be so utterly outraged. We got war, famine, depression, poverty, crippling disease, and terrible games floating around the world. Aren't there more pressing matters to attend to?

lol they have inadvertently moved it slightly more towards its pagan roots then

Easter eggs could be loosely crow-barred into being Christian.

Easter a Christian holiday plus eggs that could be justified as a metaphor for birth and re-birth could be (if a bit comically) said to be related about the resurrection.

"spring-spheres" is a step towards admitting that the holiday is actually a celebration of the coming of spring and fertility popular in the pagan religions who would give thanks to their gods for the end of winter.

although after watching the full report it seems like it may be either a misunderstood joke or a hoax.

only 1 volunteer reported it so either someone cracked a joke and she misunderstood or was looking for a bit of fame.

a similar thing happened in the uk a couple of years ago. a comedian said that new health and safety laws meant that acrobats would have to wear hard hats at work a couple of days later it was in the papers as a real story but (like most tabloid stories) there was no truth in it.

Political correctness mainly exists so people who fight against political correctness can have a smug sense of righteous indignation. 99% of the time, the accusation of political correctness is blown horribly out of proportion with a few well placed lies mixed in. Which is why people thrive so much on the rare stories of people ACTUALLY being silly and oversensitive, like (from appearances only) this instance. Overall, there are far less constraints on behavior from any form of political correctness then there are from those people who will stare angry daggers at you for daring to impune on them by trying to give half a damn about your fellow mans feelings.

I'm certainly not Catholic, but Pagan holidays celebrating spring used things like eggs and rabbits as a symbol of fertility. Along comes Christianity trying to sell their religion to the pagans, and it was a lot easier to keep all the festivals, feasts and traditions the same, while just subtly sneaking in a supposedly Christian purpose behind it all.

I honestly found myself treating it like any other day when I was greeting people at my job yesterday.

Probably because until about 7:30pm last night I had a jewish girlfriend so was sensitive to people who don't give a damn about jesus- even though I made sure to give a damn about Passover. Freakin' matza...

I'm an atheist and I'm perfectly capable of enjoying Easter Eggs. Fuck your equinox ovoids.
Well said well said indeed. Honestly, why the need to change it? I just don't really understand it. :/ Are they scared of being sued by some nutjob who -really- doesn't like Christian Holidays? I just don't get the need. Could someone explain the need to me? I just don't understand how calling a chocolate egg an Easter Egg because it's affiliated with a Christian Festival is politically incorrect.

Whatevs, it's not like anyone I know actually celebrates Easter anymore. I'm lucky I still get Spring Break. (Woo, 1 week off school a week BEFORE the week preceding Easter.)

I'll be damned before I refer to Easter as anything other than "Resurrection Rabbit Day."

As in, the day Jesus came back from the dead and wanted to celebrate, so he gave eggs colored by wine to children and then played hide and seek with them while he was transformed into a rabbit.

[sub]I'm going to hell for that, aren't I?[/sub]
It's much more fun to call it "Zombie Jesus Day"

If your not religous you can just call it a chocolate egg or an egg hunt why change the entire name just because it has a connection to a religion? I mean seriously politically correctness is just plain wrong, it appears to be more a group of people who don't like things so they change the name and context of what it is to something they would like instead of it being a group trying to make things more socially acceptable to the whole community, it's just plain stupid.

Yup, like nearly all 'political correctness gone mad' examples, this story is made up.
I must be horribly out of the loop I didn't realize "The Frisky" was a reliable source. Hell I didn't even realize it existed until I saw the link. And although I agree with the sentiment that the original story was not true I fail to see how "probably not real" is a definitive "didn't happen" even if the source was valid.

Thefrisky > Fox News. And I don't even know what thefrisky is either.
