So umm... what exactly is the "key difference" between this and every other Pony thread ever made?

The fact that this has a powerful message that wouldn't lose any of its impact even if it was used with say, bleach, or doctor who as a backing.

"Having friends is good" isn't exactly a powerful message, and putting in some slow sentimental music doesn't make it any more so. Also, recreate the video using bleach and doctor who as a backing and I'll agree with you on that.

If I was any good at video editing I would, but it's never been an interest of mine, but that's off topic.
If that's the way you feel nothing I say is going to change your mind, but at the end of the day that's just your opinion, that certainly wont change the importance of friendship in a persons life.

.. Jeeze that sounds cheesey, ah well I'm out before the hard core pony haters arrive.

The message isn't powerful. I have seen it a hundred times over since childhood. Friendship is magic is hardly insightful. The broke man who has a family and friends is the richest man of all, blah, blah, blah. There are hallmark poems only 5 lines long that are more powerful than this video. This message in this video is so common it is cliche. It isn't deep or meaningful. Hell, as I pointed out, parts of it are false or shallow and some simply misconstrued.

As well, the sentence I quoted doesn't make sense. I gotta agree with Flare this post really has nothing to do with the Gaming Discussion and the MLP threads everywhere else on this forums is a little irritating.
EDIT Glad Pheonix was able to pick up on what that sentence meant because I could make no sense of it. I still can't really.

Bit of a cliche message but always effective nonetheless.
Just saying "friends are good" is bland and boring but the delivery here makes it rater interesting.

He/She is saying the reason this pony thread is different to all the other pony threads is because it doesn't need to be a pony thread to still get the message across.

So basically you're saying that unless you have friends, you are a complete and total failure in life? People should learn to shine for their one sake, and not just coast by on the merit of being friends with someone.
No, you're jumping to conclusions, the video said nothing about you being a failure unless you have friends, the message is if you have friends you can hardly be considered a failure. They are very different things.
Not sure about that. I've known some people with friends that could be considered colossal failures.
I just think anyone who judges whether or not they are a "success" based on how many friends they have is missing the point a bit. What would that even mean? Is there a number of friends you have to have before you become a "success"?

First off:

I could barely understand your post. Something about "bronies" and reaching outside your circle?
Video was kind of meh. It reminded me a lot of those touchy-feely chain emails that get sent around by grandparents. The ones that make you go "aww" but upon closer examination actually make no sense.

Secondly:

Chrono Trigger is really good game from the PS1 era. Hell it's a good game in any era.

Thirdly:

This is gaming discussion so...it would actually make more sense to talk about the merits of Chrono Trigger over Chrono Cross in this thread instead of the pony video you posted.

I genuinely feel sorry for anyone who reacted to the video posted in a negative way.

I know the message isn't particularly unique, but pretending to be a hardass on the internet doesn't make you cool. Acting like you are an unfeeling, dispassionate, apathetic person doesn't make you look cool. It makes you look like an unrelatable, miserable ass.

Basically, even though it's cheesy and not particularly new in subject matter (a la the tidal wave of "I love my friends!" chainletters that exist), I can't see anyone who has been touched by their friends and loved ones who can view a video tributing just that and not have a positive reaction.
I genuinely feel sorry for anyone who flamed people for having a different opinion to their own.

I know it's unsettling that people don't always agree with you, but attacking people who voice their opinion doesn't make you cool. It makes you look like an unrelatable, miserable ass.

See, I can do it too...

I honestly don't see the point of this. The 'message' wasn't insightful or original. Like, at all. And it was made even worse by putting the annoying ponies into the mix.

First off, the video was posted because it was "so good more than MLP fans need to see it". But it isn't that good. The only thing I can attribute to the video's quality is decent clipping. The message is nothing that no one has seen before. As well, it lacks any real structure which is key to a montage. It isn't deep or powerful or anything. Just a bunch of nice words that sound good together. But if you break it down, it means nothing. Shallow is the key word here. If he is going to post it for artistic merit then he should be ready to hear that artistically, it isn't anything all that good. Just because someone makes a video about how friends are wonderful doesn't mean the video is good and that's what was being called into the spotlight here.

A video that is so good that people who are unfamiliar with the source material should see it is like this:
Notice the structure as well as the timing. It does have the benefit of being animated to the song but I don't hold that against the OP's video as I know he was clipping. By having multiple things coincide to an actual structure rather than a mish-mash of nice words and random stuff you get something of substantially better quality.

P.S. I apologize ahead of time to the OP for seemingly pitting him up against Disney. That is not my intention as the video in the OP does stand apart. The fact that this is a Disney video is not meant to do anything other than demonstrate the crucial elements of structure in a montage. I am using it as an example, not a contest.
