SavingPrincess: Welcome to a very special edition of "A Princess Worth Saving" everyone. This time we'll be taking a look at the popular Valve zombie shooter Left 4 Dead. Here to help us we have the entire cast from the original Left 4 Dead; so let's get right into it, shall we? Zoey, since this feature is called a "Princess" worth saving, I figured we would start with you if you don't mind?
Zoey: You realize I still carry a gun with me at all times, don't you?
SP: ... okay so Louis, can you tell us a little bit about why you thought the original Left 4 Dead experience was so special?
Louis: Well, it's really all about the teamwork you know... just pulling together when it matters most, watching each other's back; it really puts the emphasis on surviving in a crisis situation. So many things are about shooting each other these days, people probably just liked to work together for a change.
SP: Now you four come from very different backgrounds... yet you're all surprisingly efficient with a variety of firearms and medical supplies... is that something that comes from being put into a dire situation, or have you had prior training that helped you survive through what seemed like nearly impossible odds.
Bill: Well, to be honest, in some ways it was a bit easier than fighting in the war... I mean... thankfully those zombie bastards never learned how to shoot back.
Z: Yeah, no kidding. My family was pretty well off, so we'd often go on hunting trips and I got into sport shooting for a while which pissed off my mom, but it turned out to be more useful than those violin lessons she stuck me in as a little girl.
SP: What about you Louis, you were an IT Systems Analyst, are you going to tell me it was all those video games that made you such a good shot?
Francis: It's because he's bl--
Z: --Hey so, yeah... Louis, didn't you say your dad was a cop or something?
L: He used to be, now he's kind of a cop-zombie... thing... but yeah I'd have to say it was all those late nights of Counter-Strike that really got me familiar with how to aim for the head.
F: I hate Counter-Strike...
SP: What about you Francis? Where did you learn to kick so much zombie ass?
F: Uhh well, ya see... I used to be... umm... in the umm... army, and... I was a cop too... we used a lot of guns... n' stuff... and I, you know... got to shoot a lot of people.
B: Francis, you're so full of shit a Boomer'd be able to smell you two clicks away.
F: Whatever old man. You're just jealous because people liked me more than you and they killed you off instead of me...
B: You damned idiot, haven't you ever heard of a god damned spoiler alert?
F: I hate spoilers...
B: ... dumbass.
F: Whatever...
SP: ... okay, speaking of... Zoey; part of what people cite the success of the original Left 4 Dead for is the dynamic between the four of you. Can you tell us a little bit about what it was like working with everyone?
Z: It was interesting, that's for sure. I think anytime you like, put people who are so different in a situation together and, you know, force them to work together or die, it's going to get kind of crazy at times.
SP: Obviously you guys didn't see eye-to-eye at all times, did things ever get out of hand?
L: Yeah there were definitely a few times when things got pretty heated. I've got a few bullet-hole shaped scars to prove that for sure.
B: Wouldn't be so bad if thumbsticks over there learned how to point his gun at the damned zombies for a change.
F: Hey, it's not my fault that Louis looks like a zombie, I mean, he's bl--
SP: -- Bill, you actually bring up an interesting point; there's a bit of contention out there between console and PC owners on which is the better platform to play the game on... where do you guys come down on that?
B: Maybe it's because I'm old, but I'd have to say if you want accuracy, you can't go wrong with an ol' trusty mouse and keyboard.
L: PC for sure... it's a Valve game, I mean... who plays Valve shooters on a console?
Z: PC, duh...?
F: I hate consoles...
SP: Okay... so... moving on then. What do you guys have to say with Valve's decision to release Left 4 Dead 2 just as you guys were starting to get some serious media attention? Do you feel kind of abandoned in a way?
B: You know, when you've been around as long as I have, you just get used to this sort of thing. I think we had at least a good year or so more in us, but that's just the way it goes.
Z: I mean, it kind of sucks... but at least we got to hook up with the new guys a little bit recently.
SP: Interesting choice of words there. There have been a few rumors as of late regarding you and a certain southern boy...
Z: Ugh, don't even get me started, he will NOT stop texting me. I hung out with him once after we were done wrapping up production on The Passing and the whole time he wouldn't shut up, he just kept talking... going on and on about his friend Keith... it was so painful.
SP: Speaking of The Passing, a lot of people were upset that they didn't get to play as you guys during that campaign. Are there any upcoming plans for you four or is Valve shifting focus entirely to the new guys?
F: It'd be pretty boring for someone who plays as Bill if they did anything new, you know... considering he's de--
Z: --FRANCIS! Seriously! Are you trying to ruin things for everyone?
F: What? What'd I say?
L: You know... it would definitely be nice to go back to work. I'd love to work with the new guys, maybe mix it up a little.
F: Yeah, I could see you, Coach and Rochelle together... that'd last like, five minutes...
L: What? What makes you say that?
F: Well you'd all uh... die first... you know... because you're all bl--
B: FRANCIS! God damnit!
F: What? Haven't you ever seen a vampire movie before? Who always dies first? The bl--
Z: --For the last time, they're zombies Francis... not vampires.
F: Whatever... they still, you know... bite people.
L: Francis, you're a damn racist you know that?
F: Whatever; I don't even own a car...
SP: Hey, guys... sorry to interrupt, but we're approaching "tl;dr" territory here. So, in a few words, can you tell people why Left 4 Dead is a "Princess Worth Saving" in your opinion?
B: Because you get to shoot the hell out of zombies with your friends and don't have to use those god damn antiquated World War II weapons.
L: Hey, it's a Valve shooter with co-op and zombies. It's one of the best online games you can play on PC for sure. Maybe I'm an optimist, but I don't see another game like us coming out for a long time that will be even close to as fun. I think we're pretty unstoppable.
Z: Totally, and, let's just get this out of the way... for those really lonely people out there, there's a patch you can download where you can pretty much see me naked.
F: I hate patch-- wait... really?
SP: I wasn't going to say anything if you weren't... but okay. Way to be progressive Zoey. Francis, anything to add?
F: I hate Rochelle.
SP: ... don't we all. Thanks for joining me this week guys. I highly encourage all of you to check out Bill, Francis, Zoey and Louis in Valve's hit, Left 4 Dead available on Steam, Xbox 360 and coming soon to the MacOS. Happy zombie hunting everyone!
