So, like many not-manly men, I'm cursed with the inability to get past the taste of beer. I've never made it past half a bottle on my own. I'm normally able to take a good first drink, but after that the taste limits me to just sips at a time. Between me and friends, we normally just have beer.
Any suggestion on how to get past the taste, or condition myself to like.
I absolutely hate the taste of beer, which always leaves me not drinking when I go out, which I guess is a good thing :)

I always seem to drink either Cider or Whiskey...

It is rather simple. Do not like it - do not drink it.
But keep trying and experimenting. Explore the wast world of liqueur.
Try "clean" drinks first, vodka, bourbon, whiskey, rum. If some of them appeal to you more then other, then try cocktails with that base, or dink them straight like I do.
Vodka shots + pickles (Russian style) can not be beat!

I hate beer, but if I want to take the edge off I mix it into a glass of orange juice.

...I almost throw up after trying to down a whole glass of red wine fast.
Yeah, cause downing a whole glass of wine is "responsible drinking" ¬_¬

OT: I thought the obvious answer would be "if you don't like beer but you wanna get drunk, drink something else". Personally, I don't see society's fascination with spending an exorbitant amount of money to get shitfaced and slowly kill yourself every Saturday night, but I can understand drinking a moderate amount because you like the taste.

Ah peer pressure at it's finest, you know you could also not drink beer, I personally tend not to eat shit even when my friends do...

Being a man is not about drinking beer it's about deciding what you want.
Couldn't agree more :)

Or, possibly, stop drinking it until you're old enough. According to your profile, you're only sixteen. Besides, at that age I seriously doubt you can get your hands on any kind of good beer, and are forced to make do with shite that tastes like it's already been drunk once. There is a world of difference between good and bad beers.
There are a lot of countries where you can drink when you are 16. My country is no exception.

But anyway, I don't always like beer either, especially not if it's warm beer. Beer needs to be nice and cold.
True, a few people have been reminding me of this. I'm assuming he's from the US though.
TBH, I don't see anything morally wrong with a sixteen year old drinking beer, so long as he's not doing it too often and not in large amounts. But if he's underage in his country, I don't think it's worth breaking the law for something he doesn't even like.

To the OP: the taste will eventually grow on you, provided you're not drinking crappy beers. But your palate has some way to go before it matures. Your preferred tastes will change as you get older, probably no point in trying to force it. And be prepared to pay a bit more for a quality brew, it really is so much better than the cheap stuff.

Try Whisky (or is it Whiskey? or are they two different things? Whatever).
It tastes absolutely fucking horrible, and somehow I love it for that.

Try something like Corona to get yourself used to it. It's worth sticking through.

Maybe its because I'm from Louisiana but underage drinking is PRETTY flagrant here and not really bothered with but staying on topic

1. If you don't like beer just stick to mixed drinks. I didnt like beer at first and when I began drinking I started with Jager and redbull, Vodka and orange juice, whiskey and coke etc
2. Just try manning up? After about a year of steady beer you will grow to appreciate it and THAT is when the adventure begins

My best advice is to stop drinking beer and move on to something else like wines or spirits. There's no point drinking something if your not going to enjoy it.

Ok, you're probably wanting to condition yourself to drink beer you don't like because your mates are obtaining whatever booze they can find/afford/pilfer. If that's the case I'm with ya, My drinking situation is the same, I only drink beer because my drinking buddies buy beer and I can't afford some nice yummy cider.
I'm 25 and still hate it.
Here's a tip....
Just gulp it down. Not too quickly or you'll binge and it'll hit you faster, but taking a large gulp, waiting, then gulping again. My father taught me that when I was 16. You'll barely notice the flavour over the light tingling and by the time you're finished with your can/bottle/keg, you'll be too numb to care (You get over the taste fairly quickly when intoxicated)

Beer is an acquired taste I think. I didn't like it when I started drinking it either. Most likely you are just buying shitty beer. It happens when you're young, then you get older and buy good beer and its all that much better.

I have a weird thing with beer. It's not just beer, it's brewed alcohols. I can only drink maybe two stubbies before feeling sick.

Stilled alcohols on the other hand, I can polish off a 500ml bottle without a second thought.

Drink some Budweiser. I used to hate beer, I drank Budweiser and didn't mind it. I kept drinking Budweiser and grew to like it. Now I like a lot of beers and lagers, like Stella and Fosters and Carlsberg. It's weird but true.
Only one of those really counts as "beer".

Beer is an acquired taste.Only babies like drinking beer right off the bat.The first few times it's sort of like "belong to the club,be a cool kid" afterwards you go buy beer on your own.I ocassionally study with beer when I go insane I go to a coffee shop and sit alone and drink beer while I study.

Back here in Holland the legal age for alcohol is 16. Strong beverages (15% or higher) require you to be 18.

First step: Stop drinking until you've reached the appropriate age.

Second step: Stop letting your friends pressure you into do (illegal) things you don't like.

If you don't like the taste of beer... don't drink it?

I fail to see a problem here, just drink something you do like. Why would you want to "condition" yourself into liking beer?
Couldnt have said it better myself just because you dont like beer doesnt mean your not manly just means you do not like beer. So just spend some time trying different drinks until you find ones you do like and then drink them

I never liked the taste of beer or any alcoholic beverage, just drank to get drunk (usually Vodka...cheap and fast ;P) don't drink any alcohol at all anymore and don't miss it (mostly stopped because to me it wasn't worth the money and hangover anymore ;P)

I wouldn't immediately assume he's American (drinking age is 16 in Germany), but I agree that he should try different kinds of beers, and microbrews.

Don't give up on beer, and good luck!
