I don't particularly like beer, but I can get by fine. If you want to start drinking beer, go for some light coloured beer and not straight to the dark ale. You'll find your comfort zone soon enough :)

So, like many not-manly men, I'm cursed with the inability to get past the taste of beer. I've never made it past half a bottle on my own. I'm normally able to take a good first drink, but after that the taste limits me to just sips at a time. Between me and friends, we normally just have beer.
Any suggestion on how to get past the taste, or condition myself to like.
I have the same problem. Beer tastes like horse urine to me :p

My advice would be to get your own booze, like vodka or something else strong, so you only have to stomach like 5 or 6 shots to feel awesome. Dont condition your self to like it, because beer makes your fat. You gotta drink like 7 to feel anything :p And that is alot of unnecessary calories.

Yeaaah I don't like beer, prefer cider, much more prefer WKD/VK and then I'd much rather have sambuca and Jägermeister!

Of course I found out the other day the undiluted blackcurrant juice and cider is delicious...I also ate ice cream and noodles so don't take all my advice.

If you feel the need to drink to feel "manly", maybe drinking isn't for you.

Had the same problem when I "grew up". I.e when I was younger. It's an acquired taste, and lucky for me, I acquired it.

I have the same problem. It doesn't bother me so much. At the very least I won't be pissing my money up against the wall and suffer the armageddon-like hangovers. I'd rather drink something that tastes nice - like J2O orange and mango! REPRESENT!

Though having said that I can drink a few spirits with little to no trouble, that might be the way to go.

Most alcohol is rancid. You don't drink it because you enjoy it, you drink it because being drunk is lovely. I do anyway.

However I stopped drinking lager completely, and I don't really like ale so I moved on to cider. Good cider goes down a treat, especially with blackcurrent if you're resigned to cheaper options/you're getting a bit too pissed.

Experiment, find something you like. There's bound to be something out there, plus it's fun.

There is nothing not-manly about not liking beer, it's just the drink most associated with chilling, and it's manly to chill with a pint.

So why not have a cider, i'm sure you'll find that cider is so much better than beer =)

However, if you don't live in britain, you may have a problem locating the so called cider.

I've found when i've been abroad to other english speaking countries, there never seems to have any cider anywhere.

it's kinda wierd compared to britain =S

My advice if you are keen and really want to like beer rather than going for something else is to try some variety. Different brands have different tastes. For example (Australian here) I can not drink XXXX, so horrible (like making love in a canoe some might say) but I quite like Tooheys Extra Dry Platinums. There is a great variety between how bitter and how strong the flavour is. Stella Artois for example has a slightly unusual flavour, Guiness and Stouts are a much more different experience. So yeah, go for some variety, don't try to choke down what you don't like.
Stella Artois is fantastic. I have the exact opposite thing to the OP. I haven't found a lager I don't like. In my life, I've had Stella, Carling, Carlsberg, Brahma's, and some unknown "french" lager from Morrison's (we were keeping the drinks outdoors cool by submerging them in cold water during a party, and the labels fell off, so I never found out what I was drinking.)

I would suggest you to drink out of glasses, so you can drink faster, or out of a beerbong(google it) if you want the more radical decision. So grow a pair and drink!

If you're not old enough to be drinking legally, don't drink.

That being said, I know more adults who don't like beer than those who do. They either don't drink, or enjoy a different kind of drink.

Beer (or any other kind of drink) doesn't make you manly. Too much of it just makes you fat.

Or, possibly, stop drinking it until you're old enough. According to your profile, you're only sixteen. Besides, at that age I seriously doubt you can get your hands on any kind of good beer, and are forced to make do with shite that tastes like it's already been drunk once. There is a world of difference between good and bad beers.
psh, I'm sixteen and I can get good beer from at least half of my friends if I wanted to (not to mention my dad has some in his fridge, and offers me sips of new brands/flavours to prevent me from liking beer XD)

It's perfectly legal in the U.S. to drink at 16 if its within a home, and an adult of legal drinking age is present.

OT: Just don't drink beer, the anti-oxidants and toxins are good for you occasionally, but overall its something that if you don't like, you shouldn't drink it.

Drink other stuff. There are many alcoholic beverages that taste awesome and will get you more pissed than beer ever could. For example, try downing a ton of Jagerbombs. That's Red Bull with a shot of Jagermeister. Tastes amazing and a handful or so of them will get you more drunk than 10 pints of any generic beer ever will.

Or, and I've only heard of this through whispered tales in the corners of taverns: The Snakebite and Black. I have no idea if its a real drink or not, but apparently its so tasty but SO heavily alcoholic that a lot of places in the UK don't even serve it because people drink too many and end up with alcohol poisoning.
You shouldn't pay too much heed to whispers, they're often greatly exaggerated half-truths.

A Snakebite is just Cider and Lager mixed together (usually 3:4 Cider:Lager). A Snakebite & Black is just a Snakebite with a shot of blackcurrant cordial, which isn't exactly rocket fuel.

Technically it is in violation of licensing laws for a pub to serve two different types of alcoholic beverage in the same glass (lots of pubs evade this by serving you a pint of Cider and a half of Lager separately and turn a blind eye to you mixing them).

The reason the Snakebite & Black has a reputation for causing alcohol poisoning isn't because it's particularly more alcoholic than any other beer, it's because the added blackcurrant masks the bitter taste and makes it very easy for people to drink (especially for people who don't like beer or cider) and because it's easy to drink many people drink far more pints of Snakebite & Black than they can handle.

So technically it is illegal and technically it does lead to alcohol poisoning, but that's only because lightweights drink far too much of it.

It isn't anything special or a mythical high alcohol concoction like Absinthe. You'd get just as wasted drinking 10 pints of ale as you would drinking 10 pints of Snakebite & Black, but it's far easier for the average person to drink 10 pints of Snakebite & Black as it mainly tastes like blackcurrant cordial.

Also, a handful of Jagerbombs won't get you more drunk than 10 pints of beer, not even close.

10 pints of weak beer (3.8%) contains 21.6 units of alcohol, where as 10 (single measure) Jagerbombs only contains 8.8 units of alcohol.

Jagerbombs only appear more potent because the caffeine in the Red Bull will hide the effects of the alcohol, causing people to get more drunk than they realise and while feeling relatively in control. Then, when the caffeine wears off they're suddenly left with just the alcohol in they system which can come as a bit of a shock.

If someone was to imbibe the combined alcohol content of 10 pints of beer in a short time, masking it with a stimulant so that it hits them all at once, then they would be a lot more drunk than somebody who drank 10 Jagerbombs, dangerously so.

I have the same problem man can't stand the taste of most alcoholic drinks but I can provide two solutions that help me get by:

1. Don't drink it, no one should force to to drink beer if you don't like it. That's like trying to make you eat food that you don't like. This I find is easy to do but if you cave into peer pressure a lot the look to number 2.

2. Give different alcoholic beverages a try. For example I have found that I like the cider Strongbow as well as whiskey and vodka (straight or with tonic), but not much else otherwise. It took a lot of experimenting, I tried a lot of lagers, ciders and other drinks before I came to the conclusion of what drinks I could bear.

Hope this helps :D

Start with Cerveza (especially if it's got a lime or lemon in it) and then work your way up.

Stay clear of bitter (or real beer, not larger) ;)

Drink single malt scotch another mans drink. Or whiskey straight up if you can't handle beer. Or since you cant drink beer you probably wont like these so get yourself a handle of vodka and mix yourself a girls drink. Or if you wanna stay somewhat manly Jack and Coke is acceptable. (that would be a can of coke and how ever many shots of jack you want usually 2)
