We live in an amazing world, where technology continues to march forth. Recently, an art form known as videogames has surged forward, and is quickly progressing to be viewed legitimately, as TV and movies were before.

Of course, this is not the final piece of technology that will emerge. Some day, there will be a new art form struggling for legitimacy, probably in our lifetimes. But before it does, I want us to make a pledge:

Do not let us make the same mistakes.

We've all seen Fox News make a collective ass of itself saying that videogames are the antichrist. Eventually, this new technology - my guess is, microchips inserted into our brains to allow us to imagine more vividly - will face the same sort of derision. I want us to promise, here and now, that we are not the next Fox News.

Please do not do what our forebears did. If we can learn from this mistake, that would be...well, it would be a first.

I reject your pledge and instead do solemnly swear that I will ***** and scream about any and all technological changes as they happen.

Besides, that micro-chip idea really *does* sound like it'll create a new generation of murder-rapists.

...and you want to deprive the world of all that comedy gold?

You must really hate our future generations.

I'm not gunna accept any and all technological "advancements" as good ideas, gotta wait a bit, let the idea and the tech simmer around for a while before making decisions, praising it immediately is just as bad as shunning it in my eyes.

So instead of blindly dismissing it out of hand because it's new you want us to blindly accept it out of hand because its new?

I'll rather make an informed and reasonable decision before inserting microchips into my brain thanks.

Exactly this. In fact I think the knee-jerk reaction against anything new is probably a very good thing. If the thing has merit it will pass that scrutiny and distrust.

Not without casualty's, like the comic books Comics Code or the Hays Code for movies.

1991 here.

The sentiment is the same. I definitely both have optimism and concerns about where our more connected world is taking us. It is also a mistake to toss away everything the past has to offer. Most people in the West are incapable of surviving without buying food at stores, something that can bite us in the long run. We have to keep tabs on just how dependent on things and people we make ourselves because tech can fail and people can turn on you. Gotta be ready.

You mean like the xbone DRM fiasco that happened 2 years ago?

Yeah, good luck with that.

Seriously, nothing is new under the sun. What once was shall be again.

No promises. I like to think I have an open mind, but twerking, text-messaging and selfies annoy me to no end, and who knows what other bizarre things may appear in the next 20 years or so.
