Aye, and that could very well work, except that you need to emphasize GAMEPLAY if you're making a VIDEO GAME. Then again, I didn't go into MGS4 on hype; I have never played a MGS game prior to that. Ever.
It was a "Hey, you got a PS3. Let me see what it can do." moment.
You a Kiwi? Or maybe a Pirate/Irish man?

Nope. Just your regular American mutt with way too much Irish+Scottish in him (and I don't mean Whiskey). Love the extended family.

Master Chief and Marcus Fenix are for Xbox fanboys.

Kratos and.. yeah.. are for PSN fanboys.

Both consoles have there exclusives, but just think about which ones are replayable over and over? God of war 3? Yeah its a sick game, yet no online? To put that in comparison with Gears (In which the online is awesome) there is no competition.
Hmm, the thing here is that you can't base the merits of a game on its online capabilities. You have to ask yourself, how replayable would Gears be without the online? The gameplay is bland and the characters are pretty soulless. It's a dry game wrapped in macho-fetishism and chainsaw guns. God of War? Likeable character in a rich story (at least the first one was).

Infamous, is good, but we also have Prototype, IMO pretty much identical games of a different theme.
inFamous and Prototype were compared quite often when they were first released, now look, which one is getting a definite sequel? I'll give you a clue, not Prototype.

Heavy Rain and Alan Wake near identical? Did you even play both... or either... they're not even remotely similar in theme, gameplay or story.

ug im sorry man but i have to fix a few things here:
1)prototype does have a sequel being made at least thats what its creators are saying.
2)heavey rain is not a game so alan wake wins by default for actualy being a GAME not just a seires of quick-time events.
3)the gears of war VS god of war debate. I left this for last because this will take the longest both games are very good but im sorry i liked gears better mostly because it has a better story.(im not alone in thinking the god of war games though fun kinda suck in the story department see extra credits) Now i cant stress this enoth BOTH gmaes are great and if you dont own them you should.

You don't have to fix anything, at least if you can read you don't.

1) I said definite sequel. Key word = definite. Rumours of a Prototype 2 does not equal a definite sequel.

2) Heavy Rain is very much so a game. It is an Interactive Drama Video Game. Regardless of your feelings and opinions of Heavy Rain, it is a game. If it were not, then you could also say that point and click RPGs and adventure games are not video games.

3) Not much of a debate really, considering they are two entirely different games, but for the sake of Aphex' argument I'll carry this on. Gears of War has possibly the blandest, most uninteresting and generic story next to Halo. I'm not denying the game is fun, but the characters and story aren't its big selling point. I think that is down to the chainsaw guns. And God of War games suck in the story department? I watched Extra Credits, and whilst I could see where it was coming from, I think they missed the point a little. Allow me to quote my comment from the video.

Whether intentional or not, each game seems to show the degredation in Kratos' humanity. In the first game, we see him fighting for a cause, in the hopes to rectify a mistake. In the second after our hero's hopes are dashed, we see the start of the degredation as Kratos seeks to take out his revenge on the Gods. For two perfectly good reasons. By the end of the second game, Kratos has become even mightier than Zeus himself and absolute power corrupts. It seems pretty natural that by the third game, Kratos would be a walking machine of inflicting death.

Pretty funny, because the tragedy is actually in the Gods' deaths. They lead Kratos on, kept him believing he would be relieved of his painful memories. They stopped him from committing suicide and made him a God. They gave him the means to engage in battle and quench his thirst for blood (probably fuelling further power and bloodlust). In the end, they brought about their own demise.

Maybe Kratos is meant to be a character with redeeming qualities, because we get to see the monster he has become. We get to see how the Gods' have toyed with him and pulled his strings. We get to see the tragedy of the puppeteers being systematically slaughtered by their puppet.

Got a PS3 for some exlcusives, played them, cleared them, let it collect dust for 6 months then sold it (at a massive loss since I bought it just before the slim came out...).

Littlebig Planet and inFamous were totally worth it tho. Damn good games. Just a matter of how much disposable income you have.

my apoligies for the missing of the word definite it was late and i missed it sorry.
Heres why heavy rain is not a game and a point in click game is. AHEM it requires the use of inteligence to play a point and click game not so much for heavy raid witch is basicly just one big cut sceen. Sorry if you disagree but if your game play is that limited it shouldnt be called a game. Maybe an interactive experiance would be a better name for it then game.

I bought a PS3 some years after my 360, and this is my take...

The PS3 exclusives are more interesting. I don't care for Uncharted 1/2, MGS4, or Little Big Planet, but I loved Demon's Souls, God of War 3, and InFamous. I'm also a complete sucker for all things Team Ico; The Last Guardian would have forced my hand eventually.

But I've only purchased three games for the PS3. Why? Because this system sucks at anti-aliasing. Nearly every multiplatform release looks much sharper on the 360.

(And before any blind Sony fanboys storm the castle, no, it's not some screwed-up setting or unfair nit-picking on my part. Most PS3 games have noticeable jaggies, and these do detract from the visual quality of the experience. I know a lot of the first party releases have created solutions, but that doesn't change the fact that 90% of third party games look better on the 360.)

Of course, nearly all of those multiplatform releases look even better on a solid gaming PC, so there's not much in the way of bragging rights for the 360 either.

Anyways, I don't regret buying the PS3. I greatly enjoyed the small handful of exclusives I purchased, and it's a fantastic (and QUIET) Blu-ray player/Netflix device. If I had to choose one or the other, I'd probably ditch the 360. But I've also got a very powerful gaming PC in the wings, so the vast majority of the 360 library is about to become entirely obsolete. The PS3 still offers a few experiences you can't get anywhere else, and that justifies the purchase for me.

I think this actually depends a fair bit on personal preferences. When looking at the solutions some devs take, there's about an even split on preferences. I think Batman Arkham Asylum looks much better on the 360, while others disagree and think the PS3 version looks better and I can't even see their point. Then with Red Dead Redemption I much prefer the look of the PS3 version, finding the softer visual aesthetic fits the game better, while others prefer the 360 version for being sharper (and there I can actually see their point). I don't think that it's quite at 90%, and lately devs have been spending less time on the 360 and more on the PS3, and the number of games that look good on the PS3 but not good on the 360 has been increasing. 2-3 years ago there wasn't much of an argument, the 360 was better, but now it's a matter of personal preference and I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years the PS3 version universally looks better.

Neither a PS3 nor a 360 are worth having if you already have the other one, you'll end up only using your ps3 for exclusives since you're probably already used to the 360 controller.

I think once the AA solutions on display in many first party releases spread to the third party devs, the PS3 will pull ahead for sure. It's clearly the more powerful system, and it's just as clearly anchored by the 360's capabilities (just as the PC is anchored to the console market in general).

If my tone was aggressive, that's probably some built-up anger towards people telling me I'm "crazy" or "stupid" for seeing jaggies in PS3 games. I've played a variety of third party releases side by side on both systems now, and the 360 games are almost always sharper. If a person doesn't care about or even notice aliasing, this is a moot point. I see them immediately, and they bug the shit out of me. That hasn't stopped me from enjoying Demon's Souls and InFamous (two heavily jagged games), but I'm not going to call the multiplatform releases "a wash" when my own two eyes have seen the reality of the situation.

If I'm harping on this, it's only because the aliasing issues on PS3 were by far my biggest disappointment with the system. Coming from 360, I expected same or better graphics. I anticipated buying all future games for my shiny new PS3. Finding out that a good number of games look much better on the older, louder, less reliable 360 had me seriously (if only initially) regretting my PS3 purchase. A few good exclusives definitely turned me around, but I was more than a little pissed at first.

I sold my RROD riddled 360 for a PS3 and I have never looked back. It is a great console and I wish I bought it first. It would have saved me a ton of stress and time.

I totally agree with you, the lack of AA on the PS3 is a huge let-down, hell, that was a feature included in much earlier PC GPUs so there's little justification for it to not be included. Sony definitely messed up in how they went with nVidia for the GPU, but Blu-Ray and Cell do pick up a lot of the slack.

Its pretty expensive and not that much better then an X-box. Find a friend who has a PS3 and maybe rent or borrow the games and see if you really like them. 300$ is a lot to pay for playing a few games.
