Wondering what Escapist's users would do in this situation and looking for advice in this.

The Backstory:

My PSP power switch has worn out and a good friend in the USA has just sent me a broken PSP 1000 the screen is busted but other than that it works, where as on mine my power switch is almost not working any more. (also note I am in Europe)

Now it takes more work to replace the board the power switch is on (right control board also deals with the power switch) than it would take to just pop the screen from my current one out and place it in the other since that is the only fault of the American PSP.

The Dilemma is this:

I Have a number of UMD Films (9) which are European, Like DVD's they are coded for Europe playback only. So if I Put the screen over to the USA unit I will not be able to play them. Custom firmware hacks will also not work for this as they only affect UMD Video ISO's not the actual UMD's themselves.

My Current PSP has Custom Firmware on it (and don't worry I got more UMD games than most xD) and I have tested by switching the Fake Region to 1- USA and seeing if it prevents me playing my 2 - Europe / UK Films. and it worked fine showing its not affecting what I would need.

The Question is this:
Should I Move the screen from my European PSP 1k to the American 1k saving myself some effort and time but loosing compatibility with the UMD Films I do own or...

Take the extra time and effort to port the board my European 1k PSP needs from the American 1k and keep full compatibility for what I own on UMD right now.

I Know that for games it does not matter what PSP you play them in, But Since I have a fair few (Mostly given to me but some are decent films none the less) Films...

What do you think Escapist?

Well...how much money will you be saving? And how often will you watch those films again?
Thing is, you can always download the films onto the PSP. Legally ofcourse.

So...that's what I would do xD. Sticky situation though HMMMM.

If I read correctly, your current PSP has CFW which will let you watch UMDs from another region? If so then go the easy route and put the American board in the Euro unit, then reapply the custom firmware. The American PSPs support them too (though I've never bought movies on UMD so never bothered to worry about it)

Unfortunately it only works that way if I ISO the UMD Video's when running from a Real UMD the override does not work :(

Stupid question: If the switch is all that's wrong with your PSP, could you cannibalize the US-PSP's on-off switch instead?

Have not actually watched them all as of yet and thats somewhat whats going in my mind but it also kinda renders the umd films useless to me
