I don't know what this kid could've done to deserve that. Small and helpless, with no means to fight back, surrounded by people who laugh while they're kicking you - fucking horrible. I'm rarely surprised by extent of human cruelty but I couldn't watch this whole video because of that overwhelming, gut-twisting mixture of anger and sorrow.

Different cultural standards.

Judging them based on Western standards is ridiculous.

Where do you think the term 'savages' originated from? People who were raised in a completely different social environment judging other cultures by their own messed up standards.

Yup, I found an article on the story.

I seriously cannot find the words to describe just how horrifyingly disgusting that is.

In fact, several of the onlookers cheered and made comments as the student was assaulted.
Holy mother of god I fucking hate people so much.

Well, sadly I'm not surprised. There were stories of a girl getting gangraped and people just stood and watched. I beloved there is a law that states that the more people who are around when something bad happens, the less likely someone will help. Can't remember what the name was
It's called the Bystander Effect. Essentially what it boils down to is that the more other people are around, the more each individual believes one of the others will resolve the problem. Thus, it's Somebody Else's Problem and they don't have to give it a second thought.

It's depressing as all hell, but definitely true.

As for the OP: I can't watch the video, what with being at work, but from what is described, it sounds bad. I don't have enough information to confidently state the morality of the situation (you never know, the kid may well have deserved it), but based on the information I do have, I'm gonna go with "It's kinda depressing that no one actually stopped it".

I'm not gunna even watch it. First I here about that Chinese girl getting run over and left to die in the road while people walked right by her. Then there is this video and judging from the comments, I don't even want to watch. Seriously wtf is wrong with China?

China?

The same country with a toddler got hit by a vehicle or two while people just walked on by and ignored it?
Don't forget to mention the one lady who looked both ways then dragged the flattened corpse of the child to the nearby garbage heap and left it there.

Also, to all who say they are losing faith in humanity: if you have any left at all, there's something you don't know.

I've just been shown this video on Facebook by a friend of mine and... I don't know what to say. What the hell? What did this kid do to deserve this? How can so many people be standing by and watching as this goes on? And are these just normal Chinese people, or has the Chinee government been breeding and releasing some kind of humanoid monster onto the streets? To any escapists who already know of this, what the hell happened here?
I've seen the video before, and I showed it to a Chinese friend who told me that he has seen it before and that the kid was caught stealing, apparently this is not the first time he was caught either. Hope that makes things clear.
It... explains what triggered the event. Frankly though, it doesn't explain how they could do this to such an extent. Someone said on Facebook said it looked like the kids fingers were broken. I didn't notice that in the video, and I'm not about to watch it again, but if thats true then this goes way, way beyond justifiable punishment, and if a culture can allow these things to happen as regularly as some other comments seem to suggest, then that culture has some serious issues. I know, the bystander effect, but seriously, someone could have done, or said something. Goddamn it.

the chinese are more... old school, than countries like the US and UK.

Honestly I've never been against hitting your kid in public as punishment. I know my parental figures werent, and quite frankly i've seen the ***** premadonnas that dont get a nice little swat in the head and how they act when they're grown and I couldnt stand if my kid acted that way.
That's the parents job to punish a child, not a group of assholes.

Yeah but, in order for that theory to apply it has to be something minor, like someone getting their bag stolen off them; or there has to be a level of ambiguity, as in "Is that homeless guy seriously hurt or is he just sleeping?" Not when some poor kid is getting the shit ripped out of them in the middle of the street. I can almost see the mentality of not intervening for fear of getting hurt yourself, but to not even call the police? To just stand by and watch like its a sport or something? That has no excuse.

when ever a situation like this occurs, and somebody brings up "cultural differences/standards/values" I'm reminded of a quote by a man named Charles James Napier. When he outlawed the practice of Sati (burning widows) people stated cultural differences, and he replied:

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."

So for me, moral relativism doesn't hold up.

I never agreed with it, but by their cultural standards, it's the correct way to deal with that situation.

If you want to go tell them you disagree with their methods, be my guest.

*cough*bullshit*cough*

Different cultural standards does not give them license to do something immoral.
Immoral by who's standards?

Again, cultural views vary widely across the globe. Who are you to say they're 'wrong'?

I also think it is abhorrent, but I also recognise that I think it's wrong based on my own standards.

In their minds, I'm sure they believe they're doing the right thing and as long as they're in their own country who permit this type of behaviour, it is 'right' to them.

But this has infact made me loose faith in humanity.. Fucking hell. Seriously ust kill them, even the onlookers, fucking scumthe lot of them, fucking assholes.
I wish i didnt live in a world where i would read this. A torrent of hatred and rage. AND AGREE. DEAR FUCKING GOD. This isnt bad. This isnt horrific. THIS IS FUCKING TENTH CIRCLE OF HELL ETERNAL DAMNATION BAD. NO AMOUNT OF suffering is enough. NONE. A thousand boiling needles to the eye isnt enough pain for these people to know enough suffering for what they have done. Im disgusted, physically disgusted. I feel sick. I really do. These are not people. These are not animals. These are human filth. Human fecaes. They should be killed without mercy like the scum they are.

You and me both. I hate THESE people. Fuck losing faith in humanity. Fuck losing faith in normal people like YOU and ME and the dude i quoted above who are regular normal non filth people, lets just fucking execute these THINGS like they deserve and call it a day, i refuse to be branded by any brand that they have also, i refuse to hate the common man, i refuse to hate anyone i see in the street, i will hate, and soley hate THESE people. And any i hear of doing similar things. With a hatred so strong it will create a circle of hell just for them just by the reverberation of my burning fury through the aether.

Maybe if we gather enough we can finally get some justice in the world and make it so these people pay dearly for what they did.

EDIT: I do not support lynching without trial. I just support the death penalty here to the fullest.

From what I have heard about the video, the little boy stole from a store or vendor or something. So apparently that was what set off the powder keg and gave the more racist/violent people an excuse to attack him.

It sickens me that those people would do that regardless. Compared to stealing, gang beating a small child is something I would punish with a Prison sentence without a second thought.

The Bystander Effect
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect
I'm aware of the bystander effect, I just don't understand how people could do absolutely nothing. Maybe stepping in and clocking the guy on the jaw would be a bad idea, you could turn the crowd against you and be torn apart, but how can anyone justify doing nothing at all, even slipping out of the crowd and calling the police? If I ever find myself in a position to stop something like this, I'd like to think, I hope like hell, that I'm a decent enough person to at least do that much.
