I keep hearing about this alot, and here is what I have for the whole censorship thing.
"This will jeopardize free speech for others."
No it won't. I've got news for you. "Rights" are an idea. That's it. A human concept, put into practice by large groups of people that share in the belief that the idea is a good one. The problem is, that idea can change in favor of the majority. Any majority. So that right can be taken from you. In simpler words, Freedom of Speech isn't a right, it's a privilege. A privilege that can be taken from you at any time. If you don't believe that, simply go and read up on U.S. history and you'll see how many people were "protected" by their rights.
The point to this observation? We're people. We're not held to a specific set of rules set by other people. If we say that we want the WBC declared a hate group without penalty, then that's what we're going to do. Worrying about the loss of freedom of speech for others is not even worth dwelling on because, again, the majority gets what it wants. Not based on a privilege, but based on human nature.
It's only a matter of time before one of these gets out of hand and someone else realizes that for all their "rights" and "protection", that neither one of those will stop bullets or other forms of violence. That person will do something much worse than label them as a hate group and prevent them from being allowed to these events.
