Okay so I watched this video on cracked that was about the implausibility of Zombies being a threat to us and it got me thinking..why aren't there any zombie animals?
I mean I think that would be much more horrifying then a bunch of corpse eating humans any day

Anyway thoughts? questions? rants or raves?

Imagine an undead Silverback Gorilla coming to attack you.
Actually don't imagine that. You might just pee yourself

Undead animals have been used in games/movies before. They're often more threatening than their human counterparts

But there are, even in Mother 3, in which zombies are just there as a joke there are Zombie dogs and Zombie lobsters, and I'm pretty sure there's one Resident Evil in which there is a zoo level that contains zombie lions and zombie elephants, not to mention that RE1 has zombie dogs, zombie sparrows, zombie snakes and zombie monkeys, so yeah there are, they are for some strange reason often overlooked.
[sub]I'm fairly sure RE2 has zombie cockroaches...[/sub]

Well, aside from the fact that there are (as has been mentioned), the main shtick zombies have going on is that they are us. People. That's most of what makes them popular.

I'm guessing for the most part, animals could escape the zombies? Unless they're cows, cows are screwed in the zombie apocalypse.

I'm pretty sure zombie ants exist, which are mind controlled by a parasitic fungus or something along those lines. Not really very frightening though, unless they're all going to team up and eat us all alive... oh god.

ANTS EVERYWHERE, BUT THEY AREN'T NORMAL ANTS THEY ARE ZOMBIE ANTS! THEY ARE BITING YOUR HAND, OH GOD THEY'RE ALL OVER YOUR PANTS!!!! THEY'RE CRAWLING INTO YOUR SKIN OH MAH GAWDFSAJFAJRFAKILLMEHFREUSIFAFDITBURNSJEFI!!!

Because zombies represent the fear of groups or people, not animals. The fear of animals is represented in all those movie about mutant animals killing people.

The intro to Day of the Dead (1985) had a zombie alligator. I am sure there were others, but that one stuck out to me for some reason.

I remember the Buffy The Vampire Slayer game for the original Xbox had zombie/undead dog things. They actually scared me.

Great game.

That pretty much sums it up, I think.

With the possible added fear of something that cannot be killed in a conventional way- more like the zombies from Return of The Living Dead, instead of head-shot zombies- because that would be TRULY terrifying, either zombified man or beast would be terrifyingly hard to stop in that situation.

Yeah, I hate Resident Evil, can't stand the camera or the controls, don't ask me why I've played most of them though, because I'm still not sure.
I don't think I've played the 3D ones[footnote]I do have 4, I've just never played it.[/footnote], other than that 1st person one that was awful, the one for the PS1, I've played that one.
[sub]Seriously why do I own so many Resident Evil games?[/sub]

You're thinking of Cordyceps. One of the biggest discoveries in medicine. Allowing organ transplants to be done. They are quite creepy though. Taking control of the mind of an insect (doesn't need to be ants) then when the time is right it burst through its exoskeleton and spreads spores that can infect entire colonies.

OT: There are zombie dogs, zombie crows, zombie chimps, zombie reptiles zombie sharks. It has been done.

That was a normal alligator.

In the Romero films dead humans return to life for a reason nobody knows.nobody knows how or why it happened and nobody knows why its just humans.
