The 1-60 now is really fun, but once you get into the Burning Crusade area it can be a real grind and you have to fight yourself to keep on playing. If you take my advice i would play the 1-20 trial and if you like it buy the original game.

EDIT - Im waiting for Guild Wars 2, theres no subscription fees and the game looks great.
Maybe play WoW to get back into the style of these types of MMO's until the GW2 open beta then i would give that a shot.

Thanks for the responses. Do I miss out on a lot of content if I just reactivate my normal WoW account with no expansions? Or do a lot of the improvements carry over? I know most of the expansions tend to revolve around new races/classes or end content.
Blizz recently upgraded all basic vanilla WoW to burning crusade (second expansion) for free. Btw, if you do the trial, stay away from the dwarf starting zone. It's not bad, but it's nowhere near as good as the others. The best starting zones are definitely Worgen and Goblin (at least they are the first time through, the 3rd or 4th char, not so much), but you would need to at least upgrade to lich king and then I think you should be able to try out cata and the new races via a time based trial for free.

EDIT: However your existing account probably won't let you play for free, just fyi
