A question for Facebook users

You know, guys, this topic wasn't made on the premise of what things people do on FaceBook that you hate, just things you or people you know do in general. Yeah, there's all kinds of stupid people on the network, but it'd be more cool to hear clever things people do rather than stupid things. Because, you know, that's more rare.

A few friends of mine used to post status messages about every single thing they were doing during the day, right down to when they're going to bed at night. So I started doing a "Like" on whenever those people said they were going to bed/sleep. I was hoping they'd start getting freaked out and ask about it, but no one has asked yet. Ho hum.

I think that is because the "Like" function on Facebook is more like and "Acknowledge" function. If people actually liked all those stupid pages that they "Like" everyone would be borderline masochists.

I just made my account yesterday evening after having watched 'The Social Network', so, no. I'm still getting the hang of it. Luckily basically all my friends are on there already.

The random groups you get invited to.

E.g. I hate when you're walking and then you see a coin on the ground but the crowd pushes you away and you lose it!

I might just go on there so I can make a group called 'Stop making duplicate 'Stop making duplicate 'Stop making duplicate 'Stop making duplicate groups!' groups!' groups!' groups!', just so I'm prepared for the inevitable lengths people will take that joke to.

I don't have a Facebook, but an annoying trend I've noticed in friends who do do alot of the social networking rounds is how much they turn into, well, respective stereotypes completely different from who they are in actual life.

Two in particular, both normal nice guys, in real life. On the internet one can best be described as the kind of person who has no grasp of grammar or english and posts nothing but how they're listening to the latest Usher song or Paramore song or Shit-stack song or any other one of those kinds of soloists/bands and pictures of themselves wearing what looks like modern 3D glasses without the lenses. The other can best be described as the emo/philosophag type, where they post nothing but sappy emo/atheist/angsty teens trying to seem philosophical anecdotes, quotes and poems as well as pictures of emo-manga mashup fan-art which looks like the product of a 16 year-old bedroom hermit whom "noone understands" with a sketchbook and a near fetishistic love of...I'unno, Deathnote.

The "emo philosophags" migrated from Myspace to Facebook when they realised they weren't being trendy anymore.

OT: I actually rarely update my status anymore unless I want to ask people something collectively without having to text ALL of them. (yesterday I asked if anyone I knew was going to see Alexisonfire in Portsmouth last night - turns out that quite a few people I knew were going so that was good).

Unfortunately, one thing I dislike that people on my friends list seem to do a lot is update their status when they're somewhere that surely they shouldn't be focusing on Facebook?

EXAMPLES:

"I'm at Alton Towers having a great time" Have fun and be with your friends then, you dick. You can update your status later telling us what a great time you had.


"Gawd this lecture is so boring !!!11!!1" Maybe if you got off Facebook and actually tried to learn you would find something interesting.

and the last example isn't from someone I know but from someone whom I never wish to meet ever again as long as I live. A guy at the Alexisonfire gig last night was CONSTANTLY on Facebook (on his phone) during their set stood right in front of me with his stupid tallness. Him and his hipster friends would NOT stop taking "myspace pose" style photos of themselves. It was as if they weren't even interested in the band and just wanted to look cool. "Oh Hai guys, at Alexisonfire having a fucking blast"

DICKS.

I've long since abandoned taking facebook "seriously". Seems like a lot people here should really do the same. I don't play any silly games, or join silly groups. Most of what I use it for is posting funny links to my friends.

The stupidest thing I've done myself, which I found endlessly amusing, was making an alternate account called Him Self then set my relationship status to "In an open relationship with Him Self". I forget why I got rid of that...

i dont know if this is on topic or not, but like 15 of my friends have posted the same status, about if you go to google maps for directions to get to japan from china(or vice versa cant remember) and go to step 43 it says to jet ski across the ocean. It was funny the first few times, but now its so repetitive

I hate random quotes in updates. Unless the quote really, REALLY makes sense and applies to something I did, I just see them as lazy ways to make updates. I don't update often, but I at least put something meaningful or interesting that happened to ME when I do.

I hate it when people quote the sad songs, love quotes, depressing poems and stuff. It just makes me think, i know most of these people, and there lives are pretty sweet, whats so bad right now you got to blog about it. Plus when some people post those heroic quotes, i just imagine them actually being put into that situation and not knowing what to do. I actually like it though when people quote something funny or cool, thats what ive done recently.

A few days ago, one of my friends posted the following status:

"I went to Pizza Hut today, and the cashier asked me if I wanted to go to a transvestite beauty pageant!"

Another one of my friends made the comment:

"Well?"

It was pretty much the best thing to ever come out of Facebook, the rest is useless information and lots of dumbasses posting things they probably think are deep, but really aren't. At all. Which is why, despite having a Facebook, I almost never use it.

The only Facebook trend that I really can't stand is the excessive like pages, especially the really bitchy, snappy ones, or angry ones with horrible spelling and oddly irritatingly placed capital letters and grammar. Stuff like:

"hey if u are gonna b an Asshole and talk about ME behind MY back then we arent Friends!!!!"

Why the fuck are "asshole" and "friends" capitalized, and "me" and "my" in all caps? Why does that even annoy me so much? I don't even know, it just does .

But the worst ones are the political and religious ones, like this one some of my classmates were posting:

"Ibelieve in Jesus. One facebooker has challenged all believers toput this on their wall...In the Bible itsays, if you deny me in front of your peers, I will deny you in frontof my Lord, at The Gates of Heaven. This is a simple request. If you love Jesus and you are not ......afraid... to show it, repost this."

I mean, I understand that people have problems, frustrations, and emotions, and people need to express them in some way, so doing this kind of stuff is an outlet, but I still find it annoying. And honestly, one of the most annoying parts of these like pages, is when my these things appear on my news feed, I can't comment on them. Maybe that's the point, because want to be able to express themselves without others saying things about it on Facebook. But it's gotten the point where entire paragraphs of statements are condensed in the form of a like page, something that even has discussion value to it that I can't comment on.

My current FB status is:

STRATEGIC NUCLEAR MOOSE! And God said, Let Them Have Beer.

That was a pretty sweet easter egg. Also, Cazadors don't like fire...and ragdoll nicely (and messily) when you give them high-explosive missiles.
