A question for non-Americans!

Britisher here, watching the Super Bowl coverage as I type. Watched it last year too, along with a bunch of random games from this season.

I can't claim to be an expert but I understand enough of the sport to be able to follow what's going on. Aside from the sporting side of it, I like the theatrical aspect too. I'd love to get into it more but all we get on mainstream TV here is Sunday Night Football syndicated from NBC and it's hard to conveniently watch when the time difference means it runs to 4:30am.

I tried to watch it last year cause my girlfriend was all hyped about it so I tried for her... but well it fell flat on it's face. I was bored. They play, they stop playing, they play again.

Perhaps it's my fault? I went in watching it with the notion I'd be seeing some brutality. All I saw was two opposing teams in what appeared to be a stop and go animation shoot.

No I shall not be watching it. Probably never will, unless coerced into it by my girlfriend in the future. However due to having a metaphorical gun to my head, I must end this post with:

I'm from the USA, And here are my views on football, or sports in general.

Why would I sit on my ass watching a bunch of over paid undereducated morons run around on a field? What do people get out of watching football? And why do people care so much about the "Statistics" it's pathetic.

Then again I don't watch any sports, I'd rather spend my time playing a game or eating or masturbating studying. Some sport games are pretty fun though.

Oh, the only Superbowl-related activities I am interested in is watching the Superbowl episode of Glee.

I've just turned it on behind me and I like to think I'm interested, but I'm not. I don't understand the rules or know who I want to win. I'll see how it goes from here, but it won't be on for long.

EDIT: Fuck it, Rugby highlights are on. Now that's a sport I can enjoy.

It's hard to really care about when you have no motivation. If I were a richer man, I'd put $100 on one of the teams (Packers, imo) and then I'd be more interested.

maybe if the super bowl was a real sport. like one that was played and finished in under 3 hours and the players werent covered in wussy armour from head to toe it might be worth watching

I'm sure he isn't, but here in Australia our contact footballers don't wear any form of protection other than a mouthguard, and presumably, a cup.

It's a different sport of course, but it still involves tackling, piling on top of each other and the occassional brawl.

I'm a Canadian who has lived in the US for about 7 years. I've spent most of my teenage years in the East Coast, and for me, I've never been interested in football. In fact, I've never been interested in sports in general. I liked soccer because it's really just running around. I've liked floor hockey, but not sure if that was instilled in me when I was a child.

But to answer the question you seem to be asking but didn't really get across, yes, there are people outside the US who enjoy the Super Bowl. It's like asking if someone in North America likes japanese cartoons and comics. What are the chances that someone would read that? Oh wait. For every sport you will find at least 1 person who likes or is interested in it outside of the country it seems focused on. Odds are, a guy who likes football will probably eventually end up watching the Super Bowl. Except Europe, where football is soccer.

Other than some glimpses of "American Football" (a.k.a. spectaculared-up rugby for all non-USians) in Hollywood movies (and quite a few of them, at least as far as my taste is concerned), which by the way did absolutely nothing to endear the sport to me (much like baseball movies haven't made that sport even remotely interesting to me either), I've never actually seen even a single match (or is it called "a game"?) and don't really plan to see one in the future unless forced by some extremely convoluted and highly unlikely circumstances.
The only somewhat interesting sport citizens of the USA are supposed to be watching that appeals to me somewhat is basketball.
Then again, the popular pasttime of Europeans, football (a.k.a. "soccer" for USA dwellers) doesn't do much for me either. And neither does rugby. I'm not a fan of sports, period.

TL;DR : no, I'm not going to watch the SuperBowl.

I'm really not going to ever get into this game unless they do something about the stopping. every. thirty. seconds. I'm thinking the stopping is kinda essential to the game but it disrupts shit like mental.
