Hi everybody! :D

I'm building myself a new rig, and I'm stuck on which graphics card to buy D:. Could someone check I've done the rig right too?

Out of the GTS450 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-142-OK&tool=3
Or the Radeon HD 5830 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-168-XF&tool=3

Running on a AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 3.40GHz - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-253-AM&tool=3

With 8GB RAM DDR3 2 x 4Gb - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-053-GS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat

On this motherboard - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-245-GI&tool=3

In the case for £65, which includes a 500W power supply, hence my £600 budget (including monitor) - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-225-CM

So could you guys check this is all correct? I' not sure what RAM to get to be honest, and which Graphics Card.

Thank you in advance :)

Go with the 5830 and drop down to 2x2GB of RAM.

Also the 965 is just a 955 with a slight overclock that you can do yourself.

Also is there a reason you're going mATX?

Case [http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CM-023-CM&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=29]

Power supply [http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-230-CM]

4GB is fine for gaming. And I suggested the case/power supply alternatives because power supplies that come with cases tend to be crap. My alternative is a tiny bit more expensive, but safer.

Go with 8gb ram not 4gb like they are saying windows 7 runs better with it so do most software, plenty of research already behind it, and plenty of games have become large address aware so they can take advantage of it on certain pc games. Stick with the proc you have stay away from OC unless you are going to get a better PSU.

I'm not going to just be gaming, I have other things in mind.
As for the Micro ATX, I didn't realise it was micro. There's another one exactly the same, except it's bigger, so I might go with that if this is indeed Micro.

I've actually chosen a case I'd like but that along with a power supply can be a bit pricey, thankyou Kevlarfor finding that cheap-ish 500W one.

Push your budget to a 5850 and you will be running anything in highest graphics for a good while yet as it is only marginally (like 2 fps) slower than the newest 1gb 6*** series cards.

this guys right
i got mine for a steal on aria.co.uk :D

As for the 4 vs 8 gig argument, most of the time 8 gig will be wasted unless you
A) use photoshop A LOT
b) use some other heavy ended graphics design tools.

my 2 cents anyway
And that is where your average system builder is wrong, 8gb of ram in 7 is not wasted, 4gb ram actually chokes a windows 7 machine.

I may well do that, I'm after something that can run BF3 (When it's finally out) with no problem whatsoever on high.

In terms of saving money. 4 Gigs is better. 90% of all games released today will run fine on just 4 gigs. and I believe this comment is somewhat needed. NO SHIT 8 gigs of RAM will run better than 4 gigs there is a reason that it is twice as much.

I'd like to add my 2 cents by pointing out I regularly use over 4 gigs of RAM without running any games or resource-intensive programs like photo/video editing software. When gaming it can easily go over 6. Of course it depends on what exactly you're doing, but I'd pick 6 as a bare minimum. I do have to admit my pc is always running, and it's not uncommon for Firefox to use over 1 GB by itself as I never close the browser window.

Yeah it chokes it so much that this page i barely loading
/sarcasm

In real world situations 9/10 things you do won't require that extra bump. The difference in gaming is beyond minimal, hell even the difference between a ssd and and platter disk drive would be better for most games than the extra ram.

And before you calim im not knowledgeable enough or can't possibly know this, all my local friends bought pc's around the same time as me, simmilar specs between us, and iv used all their machines and the only noticeable difference was when i fucked around in photoshop. Sure to purists who can tell the difference between 59 fps and 60fps it might make a difference, but to the rest of us it really doesn't matter.
Not quite true. Running a web browser, a music player, Steam, and a game can fill up that 4GB really fast.

4GB is fine.

This is my RAM while running The Witcher 2, Minecraft, Firefox, and the Zune player.

I run a pc with an I5, 4GB of ram and a HD5770 and running chrome with multiple tabs open, steam, Crysis 2 and Itunes doesn't "choke" my comp. Still running at a very decent framerate of 40 - 60...

What about Steam? And are you running Win7 64-bit?

Besides, you never want to be using up 100% of your RAM, IMHO. So 6GB I'd say is more of a happy medium. Although 8GB is fairly cheap these days anyway...usually like $10 per GB.
Here you go:

I threw in Fallout NV in there just for kicks.

And of course I'm on 64bit.

Also I have no problem using my RAM.
