Recently I have finally cured myself of the WoW addiction and now play other games more frequently and I am trying other MMO's (And so far the only one capable of holding me in has been champions online)

But I quickly discovered something about most MMO's they are no where near the quality of WoW, the only fantasy one I could find that was up to the challenge was Rift, and I was not in the mood for another WoW honestly, so I've been trying many MMO's lately, and a thought occurred to me. Maybe I should try STO again.

Now I say again because I tried it a while back but couldn't keep myself motivated to go to far because I still wanted to play WoW and it had some rather jarring issues (This was at release) such as absolute crap ground combat and glitches up the wazoo. But something about it (namely seeing it on my shelf) has gotten me into thinking about trying it again.

So, this is what I ask, has STO been improved and is it worth really playing? If not can anyone suggest a really good sci-fi MMO for me? (No, not Eve, do NOT say EVE)

TL;DR
Has Star trek online been improved since release? If not, whats a good sci fi MMO that's NOT Eve online?

I tried STO, and It wasn't terrible, but It wasn't very good either. It left me with a feeling of disappointment, being a fan of Star Trek. The game has a lot of potential, but I would have to say the developers aren't even coming close to realizing it. I have no recommendations for a good sci-fi MMO. Try Freelancer or Darkstar One for fun space ship flying goodness if thats what you are looking for.

EVE is one of the few very large MMOs out there that don't try beat WoW at WoW's game. Either play EVE, or some other niche MMO, or play WoW.

Most big name MMOs (STO's ground based content, Rift, what we have seen of SWTOR gameplay-wise) all are so similar to WoW, but can't stand up to the quality WoW has reached after years of polish, or the quantity of end game content WoW has, to warrant playing them over WoW.

Games on my list of upcoming MMOs that I am thinking of trying are TERA [http://www.tera-online.com/], which is taking steps towards a really, really, in depth completely player controlled political system (player voted elections, player rulers, taxation decided on by the ruler: can run on no tax promises etc., killing the ruler of the land to seize control), Firefall [http://www.firefallthegame.com/], a sci-fi first/third person (toggle-able) upcoming free to play MMO (don't let the buzz words they are marketing the game with fool you, it is an MMO even if they are trying to invent some new genre name for it instead) and finally, Guild Wars 2 [http://www.guildwars2.com/en/], for obvious reasons.

Well I heard that EVE is experiencing in game riots and destabilization, plus no matter how you put it the combat is dull as hell and the UI is Microsoft excel with spaceships.

As for others I'm done with WoW due to blizzards attitude towards raiding.

Otherwise I've seen these games and I'm actually very excited for them, sadly they aren't out.
