A queston about KOTOR 2 and piracy

Stealing is stealing why is this so hard for people to understand?

Yeh everyone knows stealing is stealing aka theft. But it seems few know piracy is copyright infringement, not theft.

Personally if you already bought the game and supported the developers there really is no moral dilemma. Same for a broken or scratched disk imo if you forgot to back it up, backups are avaliable from other sources. If you are depriving them of a sale by pirating the game the first time around that is considered wrong by most people. The developers would probably be ok with it if you asked them personally because they want their product to be enjoyed and you already payed for it. Your fondness for the developer and their game will further make you want to buy future products and support that franchise/developer and spend your money directly to them, and not on some middleman holding an old game. Overall its technically illegal but I wouldn't say its wrong.

Your fault you screwed up the disc so no reason to even pirate it, plenty of places have Kotor 2 for sale online.

If you'd actually read his post you'd see that it's due to crappy backwards compatibility, no disc scratching.

OT: I'd say you're okay there OP, you've bought the disc and have the ability to play through all the content, I say you're entitled to not have it be a crappy experience.

This is kinda similar to the "Gears of War PC broken by games for Windows live" incident. For those not familiar the aforementioned issue made all legal copies of Gears of War PC unplayable for a stretch of time but if you used the crack you were fine.

Also several developers recently have made it clear that they think buying used games is worse than pirating it so ... really in their eyes you'd be less of a criminal if you pirate it.

Pft. This forum has a case of black and white syndrome. Bought just cause 2, legit for new. Turns out it was a second hand disc repackaged by Game with a key that was already in use and a CD that was utterly buggered. Game wouldnt do anything and Steam said i needed to take a bloody photo of it with my name and adress written on the manual to get a new key. Fuck that i thought and pirated it, snagging the pre-order goodies too. I think i was justified that bit of looting.

Em you know you could have just returned it. That is against the law as the item is not of merchantable quality. You just sound a bit lazy for that.

My copies of KOTOR & KOTOR 2 work fine on Xbox360 :/

If you've bought the license to play a product (bought a game) you should be able to play it for as long as that license states, irrespective of how the program is obtained. If software companies are going to hide behind licensing the ability to play games to stop piracy, they should be responsible to acknowledge when a customer has bought that license and respect that.

So, go nuts, as long as you've bought the license.

EDIT: The Xbox and PC versions count as separate games.

I find it a bit odd that people say Kotor 2 works fine on their xbox 360's I have tried it on a standard 360 and my new slim with the latest compatibility updates and the frame rates are terrible and there is this really annoying screech/beep sound that happens every minute or so, I defentally would not call it playable.

Personally I'd prefer not to be a victim of thinly veiled planned obsolescence. The wanton disregard for backwards compatibility is nothing more than an attempt to double dip YOUR wallets for the same content you already paid for.

You can argue that with the massive modding community, a PC game can (extensively for free) become an entirely new game and therefore warrant making a purchase....if that's your opinion then go with Steam and eat your cake too.
