Good idea, and you could be right about the region locks. I'll have a lookabout with my brother. Maybe we can buy two games for the same price we would have paid for one.

And no, if Nintendo are getting some of that margin, it won't be all of it. And even if they are, they aren't the only ones. I remember Aliens: Colonial Marines was still 100 USD a few months ago on Steam here. Without DLC. And also without having to deal with retailers. Which is frankly ludicrous.

But anyway, sorry for de-railing your thread to talk about crazy Oceanic video game prices :p
I don't see it as a derailment really. I am asking people who haven't touched the game for years up until now how they feel about the new Pokemon.

But it saddens me to hear about people who don't have the luxury to just buy the game and try it out without spending insane amounts of money on it because of a variety of prices, taxes, and policies relating to their countries.

I too would be more cautious about my purchases if I was in that situation.

Anyway, I hope your trial run with your brother's X version turns out well. You should come back to this thread to post your thoughts on the game. :)

Oh, if it was $35 I'd probably just go for it. It seems to be roughly 65 USD here? In the largest stores anyway. 55 if I import it from the UK and wait a week, but don't know if I can be bothered.

But yeah, I'll try it out when my brother gets his copy. Perhaps I'll get the complementary version, I think he's getting X? Although maybe that's the better version? He seems pretty clued in, he keeps bringing me over to look at Pokemon announcements :p.

Anyway, we'll see. At least the new mega-evolutions are bringing changes to Pokemon I'm already familiar with, instead of only adding new ones. And if they're simplifying IVs/EVs then that's always good for me. I don't play competitively, at all. The idea of playing multiplayer against strangers turns me off, this being no exception. I just have an RPG OCD complex where I like to know how the numbers work at least a little bit.
$65 USD where you live? Yikes! What the heck man? Are your retailers professional con artists or what? I don't think a Pokemon game ever cost that much. The only time I've seen that price for Pokemon was for their console games.

No. I think you should seriously consider importing. That has got to be the some of the biggest scam prices I've ever heard of. Those retailers are essentially selling you the game for $30 bucks more than the actual price.
Welcome to Australian pricing. Take any game you've ever seen in a store, add $50 to the price, that's the Aussie price. Woo!

OT: Really enjoying my copy of X at the moment, as I've never actually played a pokemon game barring like, pokemon stadium.

I need to know I'm buying at least 4 games for a system before I'm willing to actually purchase it. Right now, Pokemon and Fire Emblem are the only 2 3DS exclusive games I'd buy...still waiting.

One of the reasons generation 4 was the worst for me was because of how...eh it was.

For me, Generation 5 started the build up of very welcome and great additions to the overall formula of the game, while Generation 6 was basically the floodgates coming open.
This with an added "Mystery Gift" promotion in the form of my two cents...

Actually, I missed out on Gen 1 in the games and barely played through Gen 2 (all because I choose Mario Bros. over Crystal all them years ago). Gen 3 is where I actually started playing the Pokemon games to completion, collecting most of the Pokemon already available including some of the promotional Pokemon like Deoxys and Jirachi (which basically became my favorites among all the promotional Pokemon so far).

I couldn't play Gen 4 when it came out due to the lack of a DS. But once I got one... it never clicked for me to want to play it now (and the anime wasn't helping my case). I did get to play Gen 5 to completion, but it just wasn't the same as when I was playing Gen 3 for the first time...

Now, with X and Y, already I'm loving the shit out of it (and most of that came from playing a trainer who's the same "skin tone" as me in real life) and the other stuff that they added to this Gen is just making this feel more like a fresh start... The fact that the amount of people I know who are picking this game up as their first ever main Pokemon game are around the same numbers (maybe more) as when I was picking up Ruby/Sapphire tells me... I need to play more X and Y! (Why did I stop to take a break already?)

On a final note, the Pokemon designs, however, have never really been something I really had deep thoughts about... Sure, I would catch almost every Pokemon I could find and form a team based on who looked better in the long run (with the starter as the first exception, since they never leave my team period, and any legendary Pokemon as the other exception, since I usually didn't know what to do with them per se after catching and/or obtaining them), but mostly it was just to complete the region Pokedex instead of worrying about the national Pokedex... As long as I had some proof that I saw everything in the region, then that's all that mattered...

I sort of gave up after Diamond, gave Soul Silver a go recently and whilst I enjoyed my time with it, I don't think X/Y would warrant buying a handheld for personally. Back in the old days I used to buy Handhelds only for Pokemon, but now looking back on it, it feels like a waste of money.

Sorta looks like more of the same to me, but I will say it's really what the Vita's missing. A slow paced RPG that taps into a persons obessive complusive desire to collect.

As far as the Pokemon go, the Mega's look interesting (even if they're ripping off Digimon wholesale, who were ripping them off first, so just deserts I suppose) but the main new batch don't set off my 'must have' alarms.

I'm probably not getting this generation. I've been getting less and less further in each subsequent generation. I *almost* caught the 150 in red, beat the main story in gold, got about halfway through emerald, and didn't get much of anywhere in diamond or white. I think the more options I get in the game, the more bogged down and ultimately disinterested I get.

I haven't actually gotten it yet, but something I've noticed about the newer pokemon is they're kind of... I really dont know how to describe this quality... safer looking? I'm yet to see something that looks really viscous. A lot of the more evolved gen 1 pokemon looked like they could fucking hurt you. The new one eh.. I mean here's an example of what I'm talking about.

For some reason the pokemon based on something we commonly keep in our homes looks more threatening than the one based off one of the scariest animals on the planet. Pokemon has always had cutesy creatures, but I feel like there was less of a sense of restraint. Now it seems like they make even the big imposing ones seem... softer? Does that make sense?

All the new pokemon make me feel old. Before I memorized all 150 by name, and most of the ones in Gold and Silver after that I quit. When I got back into it with gen V I never bothered with all the names. It's that sword pokemon from X/Y or that electric zebra from Black/White. That's what my parents would do back in the day (or my dad would call every pokemon vulpix) and my little cousin memorized all 600+. One of the reasons I got back into it with gen V was because it limited you to 150 pokemon so I didn't have to bother with the others. I like the smaller pool of pokemon, and the designs were much better than the previous gens.

I still think gen I has the best pokemon. Gen II had a few good additions, but it was still easy to find your gen I favorites and ignore the ones you didn't like. III was a step down and IV was a jump off a cliff, which how terrible those pokemon looked is one of the reasons I stopped playing. Gen V isn't as good as I but it's close and a lot better than the rest. I haven't seen much of VI so I can only hope it's as good as V or better.

I never was into competitive play, I play through the story and use the pokemon I think look the coolest/cutest. Out of the new ones I've seen for x/y (which isn't much) I like Fennekin. The beast pokemon tend to be my favorite, which is probably why gen I is my favorite since it has plenty of them. I'm sad when I saw he evolved into a wizard, even if there's already a ninetails and flarion as firefox pokemon I wouldn't mind another.

My friend's having that exact same situation... Apparently when he ordered his copy of X from Amazon, it said that it hasn't even been shipped yet... He has to borrow my copy of X (since I bought both just to get my best friend to play Pokemon again after giving me his HeartGold copy a year ago) all this week until Amazon finally ships his copy...

Amazon... This is the fourth time you've done this to my friend involving a pre-order... I don't even... (On that note, my friend lives two minutes from a freaking GameStop... He technically didn't even have to order it online, let alone from Amazon... But, I digress...)

On the other hand, I am still waiting for my order for the X and Y Strategy Guide (due to some sort of printing error) to come in the mail from GameStop this upcoming Thursday... (because why the fuck not, from my perspective?)
