As a legal representitive it would be my job to represent him to the best of my abilities, regardless of my personal feelings regarding the case. Besides, if it truly was an accident then I would forgive him.

Granted that this is a hypothetical but it is still a huge conflict of interest. WRT the question... I'd fight for his innocence.

this is the most unrealistic situation that could ever happen....I believe that it is more likely that vampires and werewolves would come out of hiding on the same day aliens come down and start demanding to see our leader then the scenario that you just presented ever has a chance of happening.....

I can't believe that any civilized country would not have some kind of law against this. Not only that I find it hard to believe that any job would force someone to do something like that or face termination/corrective action.....

I am all for hypothetical situations but...not ones that could never happen because of well established facts

you are FAIL
why because I use a completely ridiculous situation to illustrate how ridiculous the situation we are given to ponder is.....

my point is that to ponder and discuss something that is so unlikely to happen in any serious manner is about as awesome as talking seriously about the situation I purposed.....which is not very awesome at all

I don't see how that is fail unless in some way I am the only person that thinks trying to talk seriously about something so ridiculous and unlikely is somehow worthy of one's abstract thoughts

Due to the whole conflict of interests thing, this is actually an easier choice than the last one. Since you don't get to make one.

What's with you and your bloody moral situations?

Anyway, I'd represent the hell out of him, then someone makes a heartwarming speech about human decency shining through in the end, then the camera pulls out of the window into a wide shot of the city at dusk, some hard-hitting-but-not-too-intense orchestral music plays and the credits roll.

You do what any reasonable person would to and inform you firm so that someone else can represent him.

Then I go and cut off his accelerator foot.

Consider the situation that you are a highly esteemed legal representative who is currently grieving the passing of your most loved relative. This relative was killed, though it was accidental.

The killer, a middle-aged man with a wife and 3 children was rushing home due to a family emergency at night down a poorly lit road. Your relative, returning from a visit to a friend, stepped out onto the road without checking due to this road being vacant most of the time.

The driver attempted to swerve to avoid your relative but their reaction time was too slow. Now, due to a mix up in you particular company of employment, you have been given the job of representing the accidental killer at court and due to staff shortages it is not possible for you to pass the job on to a colleague.

Now, this is the killer of your relative, but it was accidental and he has a family. Do you accept that it was an accident that could have happened to anyone, and fight his case to the best of your ability so that a family does not lose a father; Or do you let the grief of losing your relative take over and do a shoddy job of representing this man, let him go to jail, a family loses their father, you risk losing your job and possible legal action against you.
neither, you are actually not allowed to represent this man in court due to personal interest invested in the case.

so you representing him is out of the question. if the company you work for sais anything else go to higher authorities about it.

This would never happen because it's a complete conflict of interests. If you didn't find a way to pass it off to someone else, you'd be disbarred.

I would give him the fair defense he deserves. From your description it's not his fault.

I represent him best as I can. Because thats my job.

That would never happen, its impossible because if your going to have a lawer, you cannot have ever met them before in a fair jurry. What I mean is, if you dont like him, you can't be his lawer.

Let the grief take over. Sure his kids would be without a dad... for a while, but your relative is gone and never coming back. Family emergency or not, there's no excuse for driving like a twat.

Defend the man who made a mistake as a result of genuine concern for his family to the best of my abilities - obey the law and keep my job. Obvious choice.
