A really cool gaming idea

So I had this idea after watching the video attached to this news story about holodecks.

Wouldn't it be amazing if you had a 360 degree platform that could turn in any direction, then on top of that you put an elliptical work out machine, used a VR visor for a screen and had a gyroscope in it for free look, added joysticks and a few buttons for controls, and used all of this for an immersive gundam or mechwarrior game?

I think they have those don't they? I seem to remember them having VR games like that at my local arcade before it shut down (around '97 or '98). You would put on a visor that showed you the game world and walk around on a treadmill thingy while shooting stuff with a controller of some sort. But maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're talking about.
