I don't know that much about Canadian Law system, but Don't you guys have a Constitution like the United States that prohibits this stupid shit? I'm sorry If I'm being offensive. This law is pretty outrageous.
I agree this law goes against free speech and it's bullshit. Although besides the example the OP provided, I've never heard of this law being inforced, and I live in Canada...

Wow...

Can you link the guy who got arrested?

Overall i think this is one of the blanket laws they create and don't enforce most of the time unless they want to shut someone down they don't like.

This is the first i heard about this and there must be loopholes.

I mean, this is the country where you can see TnA at 5:00pm and the word Fuck as early as 4:00pm.
It's here: but the page is in French (That case is from Quebec so)

-4000 respect points for the Canadian justice system

I truly feel embarrassed to be a Canadian at the moment. Don't worry, I'm sure my pride will return with time but this was a shocker.

Now I can't be so quick to laugh at stupid laws in the states. Until this law disappears, I refuse call out other countries for their stupid laws.

Many, MANY laws here in Canada are outrageous, but there are laws EVERYWHERE that are just as outrageous.
For example, in England. If you startle the queen in ANY way, like coming around a corner too fast, you can be subject to a $14000 fine and imprisonment...
... Isn't the queen just a figurehead now and days?
I'm british and none of my friends and family care about the queen- us brits just love the millions of tourist dollars she gets us so we keep her there

only retard cops would enforce this, and the enforcement of this by cops that arent retards has been whittled down to posession of child pornography

Dammit, now I have to cross out Canada from my list of "Possible Places to Move To In Case Something Happens to Home".

My guess it will happen, since there is a trial about this law this fall, and since this law could potentially outlaw the movie, videogame and comic industry in the whole contry there is good chance it will be judge ant-constituonal by the court.... well at least lets hope so

So.... is Canada no longer an awesome place to be then?
Well it's an old law that was used at some point against the comics industry cause they blamed it for an murder. Most of time it's not used... But still there is that one case:

That's more of a disturbingly far reaching law than a ridiculous law. I thought you were talking about the law that requires milk to come in bags.

Is that a real thing?! I mean, milk in bags is already a pretty damn ridiculous concept to begin with, which somehow actually exists, but a law requiring them to put milk in bags? Please tell me that was a joke.

I'm not sure. Maybe it's not necessarily a law, but more of an option.

"You have the option to have your milk come in bags."

I hear it's still a fairly controversial law option in Canada.

It's also illegal to have a water trough in your front yard if you don't fill it by 4:30 each morning.

Most of these laws just get ignored for obvious reasons.

Oh is it EVER. I've had COUNTLESS fights with my aunt over milk bags. Jugs all the way.

Sadly, I'm not even kidding.

What... what's the (entirely imaginary) advantage people cite for putting milk (a liquid) inside of a bag (not traditionally a good storage method for things that are liquids, at all)? I'm having a great deal of trouble envisioning a universe where there exists anyone who earnestly believes that bags are a superior option for storing milk. That's like suggesting fire is a good long term investment strategy (as in applying it liberally to your money).

Heck, why would anyone put any liquid you are expected to pour out (but not all at once!) in a bag in the first place? That's just... seriously, how is this something that actually exists? It defies all rules of logic and common sense!

This sounds like a good VS thread in Politics and Religion...

Milk: Jugs or Bags?
