A sequel to Battlefield 2142 is now very likely to come, right?

Because, you know, COD now will have the theme of "near future warfare" and since the EA wants to win the CODvsBattlefield war so much to the point of releasing an unfinished game it kind of makes sense, right?

I am kind of kiding because I know that the industry isnt run like that, though I do feel that there will be a rise of "near future FPS" games in the same way that everything shifted from WW2 themed FPS to modern day FPS because of COD4.

What do you guys think? Do you think that the COD games have so much influence that they can change the progression of a genre by themselfs?

I think they managed to, but then again, some of COD4's material had been done before; it just wasn't done like this though.

However, I'm interested to see how EA reacts to this. Not to say much, but Battlefield 2142 2 or something might be around the corner if this manages to hold onto a decent buzz. And near-future FPSes haven't been too common these days, the sort of thing that Frostbite 2 would have a field-day with, especially if the same people who played 2142 are inbound.

Hopefully, they possibly teased 2143 on a crate in a similar way they did with 2142 in BF2. Whether it is a full game or a Vietnam Esq expansion to BF3 who knows.

Here's hoping for the return of the most balanced battlefield game.

That would be really nice. That was the only BF game I really found tolerable. I'm pretty adamant that oldskool FPS returns, and while BF2142 was not oldskool- they had not fully consolized the shooter in 2008 yet. There was more flexibility to bend the rules to suit my playstyle. Now, with BFBC2/BF3 they have it down to a science. In BFBC2, I spent a lot of time run and gunning with a shotgun, using the grach as my "long gun." It worked about half the time, but it was getting noticeably more difficult not to play like everyone else, like the game wants you too, which I find very boring.

One thing that annoys me in BF3 is that in most big maps if you dont go with the Engineer class you most likely wont help your team that much, there should be more classes and the engi shouldnt have rocket launchers, leave that for an anti-tank class.

1942 was the the only battlefield I like out of the lot, as for cod well I like them but they are disappointing with too much focus on the multiplayer when they should expand 4x the single player campaign.

When CoD did a made announced MW2, EA announced Bad Company 2, When CoD did Vietnam in Black Ops, BF did Vietnam in Bad Company (I know they had a vietnam game before but that's different) When CoD went to Modern Fighting again so did BF with BF3.

It's a fair assumption OP since EA have had a history being a massive copy/cat oh well battlefield: 2143 here I come!

A while back I would have been wetting myself with anticipation at the prospect of Battlefield 2143 as 2142 was easily my favourite FPS in the team-based, objective-driven multiplayer shooter subgenre- but after Battlefield 3? Sorry, not interested; I don't trust them to make a decent game any more.

Is there going to be (another) futuristic Battlefield game on the way? I don't know. But what I do know is that if there is one, it'll make THIS that much more funny.

I loved BF2142 SOOOOOO much. By far one of my favorite Battlefields/FPS multiplayer games I've played. And I can't wait for Titan mode to return, seeing as that game mode was easily the greatest mode I have ever played, ever.
