A serious sniping game?

I hope I'm not going to be crucified for this but there's a game called JFK Reloaded that has a rather interesting physics engine when it comes to bullet movement. It's unfortunately tied to a rather specific and grim moment in history.

Nah.. You shouldn't be chewed out, it was actually the first thing that came to mind when I read this. Never played it myself, but... I think that's about as serious as you're gonna get when it comes to sniping games, heh.

None, whatsoever. Ive seen real snipers in action via my military buddy hookups. and no game I ever played seemed even remotely like the real thing. A real sniper could wait hours to pick a man off. its not all "SHOOTY SHOOTY, BANG BANG, I WANT MORE BULLETS!" like in video games. Now a game about DM`s (Thats "Designated Marksman". In civilian talk, its the one guy in a squad with a medium to long range rifle (usually semi auto or single shot) whos job is to take out difficult targets from a distance to allow the rest of his men to do their thing. Ok im sidetracked.) A game about DM`s might be more what yall want. or maybe I am just playing the wrong games, but stuff like Bad Company, MW2 etc etc, doesnt come close.

There's always Red Orchestra and the mod Darkest Hour for it, I always enjoyed leading and adjusting for distance before turning a sprinting soldier into a tumbling ragdoll.

Well I don't know about a serious sniping game but the sniping in BF:BC2 is pretty good. There's a bit of bullet drop over long distances and most levels are fairly large allowing for plenty of sniping. I'm talking about in multiplayer of course.

This, unlike that OTHER game has led people to believe, bullets aren't lazers that travel in a straight line over long distances.

Cod 4, it has a lot of sniping and even an entire chapter devoted to ghilling yourself up and lying in the under growth looking down the sight of a good old sniper.

You could try operation flashpoint: dragon rising. It's not entirely sniping, but it is pretty realistic and most of the combat is at longer distances. I haven't played it yet, but it is on my "want list".

Your best bet would be Operation Flashpoint, ArmA or ArmA2 with the A.C.E. mod.

OT: Far Cry 2 might be a good choice, expansive environments making sniping an option for pretty much every mission, not really too realistic though.

There was one called Silent Scope that was a pretty badass arcade game. I think there was a PS1 version that was kind of shitty. If you can find a place that has the arcade version, you should give it a shot.

Yeah sniper Elite 2 was just awesome, taking out vehicles by shooting the petrol cap, sneaking around a blitzed berlin, it was such a cool game, took me an age to finish.
Delta force 2 and DF: land warrior are good sniping games, you can finish most missions by just sniping from far away.
