as of tomorrow i have decided to do what has been described as a week long allnighter. i know this is stupid BUT its to show a few of my friends who think doing one allnighter of gaming is "hardcore" ,plus another friend falls asleep at the worse moments and blames it on his very normal sleep cycle.

in basic, can anyone tell me what games,food, drink...basically everything to keep myself awake.

Ok slight disclaimer YOU COULD DIE. I am being 100% serious here. going more then a couple of days without sleep is a serious risk to your health. Just don't do this.

I would say don't do it. It's too long. Plus, you won't be able to. Unless you shock yourself into waking, it'll be nearly impossible.

i know i can die of this, im going to try it but if it becomes to much i will obviously sleep.

I have tried and its not going to happen. I lasted two days before I was falling asleep without knowing it.

That sounds really stupid. As others have said, you could die. Dieing is quite permanent. Seriously, just don't do it. :mad:

alright no week then, as it seems to be impossible, still i will try a few days. most ive done is 2 days before i just gave in.
thank you for the prewarning, i knew of the health concerns but i honestly thought it could be done.

I suggest doing two days max. It will prove your point, and it will minimize your risk of keeling over dead.

Although it still won't eliminate it. Your best course of action is to treat your body right.

First off you won't make it.

A) you fall asleep unwillingly: Same reason you drown. No matter how hard you try your body will force you to take a breath even though you know you are underwater and adding more water will be of no benefit to your livelihood. In that same way you will fall asleep, at some point regardless of what you try with the exception off...

B) you Die from lack of sleep or an imbalance in your system: take energy drinks like five hour energy, monsters etc. make sure to eat because a high influx of these drinks will cause shakes, dehydration, and (obviously) raise blood sugar levels and food is fuel. Also drink water. bad stuff if you don't and that is assuming you don't have any pre-existing conditions

Now If you insist on doing this try and take as many days as possible without supplements of any kind that would be out of the ordinary. Make sure to do something, break out the will if you have to but you will NEED movement and adrenalin to last. Once you reach the point where you need something then it depends. if you are somewhat active use 5-hour energy, no crash, and if you are moving it will keep you awake. if you are playing conventionally then try venom/monster but if you go with this route it is only so long before you crash anyway and no matter what you use if you haven't made it at least four days without help just stop. staying up longer than that artificially WILL cause permanent damage.

no I know I just gave advice but seriously don't it's dumb, you have nothing to prove. Some people sleep more than others don't dog your friends cause they are on "normal" sleeping schedules.

ill try a few day and will post on the escapist so keep an eye out
i will stop when i fear for my health but im expecting a few days at max but we'll have to see

my friend almost dropped dead after 5 nights of no sleep. luckily he called me before and i was just in time to get him to a hospital.

just because someones claiming to be "hardcore" doesn't mean you have to prove them wrong by killing yourself. sure you'd be more hardcore but you'd also end up dead or mentally disabled for the rest for our life.

i would strongly advise against this, do not do this!!

Actually, dying from lack of sleep takes a long time to really set in, however absent medical monitoring it can still be a risk, and you probably will have moments of micro sleep.

The record for longest time without sleep(not using stimulants, medically monitored, and readily available data) is 264 hours(11 days), yay random psych class tidbits, and wiki for sourceish place: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Gardner_%28record_holder%29 . (if one goes for reported records without much data behind it the number is close to 19 days)

However, after a short read you'll find that some rather inhibiting effects occur in a few days, with full blown delusions and paranoia in 4 or so days.

If you wanna go for it, then go for it, we live once, choose your own path.

edit: for advise if you do attempt, eat healthy and avoid energy drinks/soda, at least after the first 2 days, the energy high then drop can be quite severe, and without sleep restoring some functions to full a lot more of what you take can go to waste, so usual junk food won't last as long, and with reduced appetite you won't want to eat either, not eating+less energy is bad

I would say it's a bloody stupid thing, I've been up for 3 days straight once and it feels like nothing is real. It's a oddly disgusting feeling, sort of like your mind hasn't had a wash in several days.
You will sometimes fall asleep and not even realise it though which is the main challenge and it's not like you fall asleep on the toilet but say you are playing COD and literally you will just fall asleep. Your accuracy will slowly go down and you will make more and more stupid mistakes over time. Also eat fruit, don't just eat junk food because you will feel very sick

I'm not sure about permanent damage or if it can be caused by a lack of sleep but I would recommend you speak to a doctor or a medical professional before you attempt this.

Go for 4, or beat most of the escapists records and do 5-6, but not 7. Of course from the other thread most of us did it through medication.

Well, thanks to a heavy dose of bipolar disorder I've gone stretches of 4 or 5 days without sleep. Why anyone would willingly want to do this to themselves is beyond me. It becomes a horrible experience after day 3. Eventually, even if you somehow manage to keep trudging on, you'll experience something called "microsleep" during which you'll keep blacking out for just a few seconds at a time. After a while of that, you sorta lose track of what is real and what is a dream, and the world keeps running like it's in slow motion. Not any kind of mental state to do any competitive gaming in. Heck, I'd be surprised if you could play Tetris in that state.

All I can say is I hope things work out for you, and strongly caution against operating a vehicle during this.

I say do it. Just make sure to spend the whole week playing Shaman in WoW. If you play long and hard enough[sub]that's what she said[/sub] you should be able to master Reincarnation irl. Just don't forget to go to a souvenir shop and get yourself an Ankh. Good luck!
