Check out MY theory: Jon's body will be taken to the storerooms under the wall to 'chill' during the chaos that ensues after his assassination and before his funeral pyre can be arranged, it is here that Melisandre will find him, give him the kiss of fire, causing him to be 'Reborn amidst smoke (sausages) and salt (beef)'. Ergo, Jon is Azor Ahai.

Also, Dany will settle all her freedmen in Vaes Dothrak before setting off for the west. Thus, solving the problem of what to do with the thousands of free slaves that have been following her everywhere and ironically fulfilling the prophesy of the Dosh Khaleen re. Vaes Dothrak needing to be large enought to welcome all of her children home at once.

Well it did point quite strongly to that theory, and it's a damn good one. He will probably come back somehow. I was quite a bit shocked when he died.

Theon is probably going to be sacrificed...with his blood Melisandre will resurrect Jon.
This. I want this to happen!

I take this as a hint he's not Ned's boy
Q. Since all of their mothers died, who gave Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Tyrion Lannister their names?

A. Mothers can name a child before birth, or during, or after, even while they are dying. Dany was most like named by her mother, Tyrion by his father, Jon by Ned.

Supporters of the Jon Targaryan for King/Hero often suggest Rhaegar married Lyanna, while not common Targaryans have practiced polygamy and that by dying Jon is free of his vows to the Night's Watch.

I still dunno what to make of the whole deal of Jon possibly (likely) being a Targaryen. At least from the book we know he is not the "special" kind like Dany is, given how his hand got, well, burned when he burned the shit out of his first wight--he even made a big deal out of it being so and how he lost good use of it for a while. And on top of that he's still a bastard even if he is of Targaryen ascendance, and we know how they, historically, deal with those when they get uppity.

snipy
Not all Targaryans have immunity to fire though, like Viserys. Personally i think Jon probably IS Targaryen because it fits his character type of the archetypal fantasy hero; an orphan prince with magic blood etc. Though I think that if Jon isn't permanently dead, he will be dead by the end of the series and certainly never will be crowned due to Martin's habit of writing out familiar character types realistically...

Nope, He is believed to have been born towards the end of Robert's Rebellion, within one month, give or take, of the Sack of King's Landing. Returning from the war, Lord Eddard Stark brought the new born babe to Winterfell

I'm calling it now; there will be no Iron Throne at the end of this series.

Based on GRR Martin's political views and the fact that the book does depict a lot of the injustice of having rule by title and hereditary watch for some sort of democracy to be formed in westeros (or, at least, the seeds will be sown). I think that's the way this story is going to go; the people are paying for the decisions of their rulers time and time again. Think about this:

Danny is essentially someone driven by her "birthright" but more and more comes to worry about her people and issues of fairness and ethics. She was sold so her brother could have an army and is realizing the terrible price people pay for her own choices.

Tyrion is born to privilege but understands that, despite his talents, he can never be a true ruler as he is a dwarf. He has, throughout his life, had more empathy for those who are unfortunate than the rest of family and knows what it is like to be judged purely on appearances.

Brienne is a pariah because she is good at fighting. Good at something admired in their society; as long as its done by men. And yet she shows more loyalty, honor and bravery than most of the other knights - again, this is no accident.

Jon Snow knows what its like to be close to honorable rulers but got a dose of the real world at when he took the black. Finding good people among the wildlings and evil ones around "his" people. I am sure he will return but I don't think he would continue to tolerate a view that people have worth protecting based on which side of a wall they are born.

Then look at all the cruel, evil and treacherous characters. Most of them are above the law and can't be touched regardless of what nasty whims they indulge. Jamie kills the mad King (prior to the 1st book) and, despite doing the right thing, is labelled "kingslayer" by the very people who were rebelling him.

GRRM isn't just interesting because his books are "darker" and characters can get killed unexpectedly but because he subverts a lot of things in the genre. It wouldn't surprise me if his ending to this series challenges one of the most common features of fantasy; that the monarchy remains intact.

There are just so many prophecies pointing to either Daenarys or Jon that it might end of being both of them and one more, since the dragon has three heads.
Wanna hear something funny? Maybe the third head is Tyrion?
I've had this wacky thought ever since I learned that Aeris had the hots for Tyrion's mom, Joanna. Selmy seems to remember Aeris getting shitfaced and taking some liberties with Tywin's bride in the marriage ceremony, where nothing really happened, but we do know that Tywin spent a shitload of time in King's Landing as Hand of the King, presumably with his wife and kids in tow.

And it could well be a way of Martin's of pulling a fast one on the audience, as one of those little insane things that are so nuts that they might be true. I mean, look at Tyrion: he's a dwarf, he's ugly (Verne Troyer ugly, unlike Dinklage who is good looking), his dad hated his guts then and forever, and he wants so bad to be not just a Lannister but the Lannister, that him turning out to be a Targaryen wouldn't even surprise me.

But, yeah, the only thing I have going for it is that aforementioned Aeris wanting to bone his mom and Chekhov's Gun in the fact that "dialogue" is not the same as writing people talking senseless stuff in a novel.
Oh man, that is actually a really old idea, the ASOIAF fandom does a lot of crackpot theory shit. I read one the other day where someone was theorizing that Lyanna isn't actually dead, just hiding out in the Neck with Howland Reed. I have actually thoroughly, and in my opinion successfully, refuted the idea of Tyrion being a secret Targ (I could probably post it if anyone wanted to read it.). There is nothing that I think would spoil the books more than that coming to pass, largely because it really nullifies his relationship with Tywin, which is quite interesting all on its own. Also it seems so Mary Sue to me.

Where were you bastards when I was making ASOIAF threads before the TV show came out? I read it before it was cool.
