I'm (kinda) serious.

My thought was a 'suicide' button in FPS games in situations where you know you are going to die but don't want to give the other team a kill!

Yeah it's a cowards way out. But if you are stuck in a building with no way out and enemies closing on you from all sides, then I think it's an idea.

I know it would probably never work as it would create immense amount of controversy but I would like to know thoughts on the idea in general.

Its pretty rare that you would get surronded like that without already being killed, besides why give a suicide button just let the player go down swinging.

Drop a grenade?

When the stats people go through the battlefield after the battle, both friendly fire and suicides are ticked to each sides casualty list. Theres no glory for one side when the headlines read "2000 soldiers lost at battle of Asingrad, but 1900 of them don't count because they totally committed seppuku"

BC2 has one...
It does? I have BC2 and have never come across one. What does it entail?
It's always been a feature in Battlefield games, you just go to one of the screens (map screen, pause screen, it's not always constant) and hit "Suicide". It's usually just to get back to a spawn point quickly or change class.

Hehehe, Mech Assault had one in splitscreen multiplayer, once your mech was destroyed in the co-op mode, you'd spawn on foot, and can't do anything except get trod on, shot, or make yourself die by clicking the right thumbstick. Of course, you could run around.
Mech Assault 2 lacked that feature, but when on foot, you could plant bombs, and blow yourself up.

I'm not bitching about anything. It was just something that popped into my head.

Oh yeah I know about that. By "suicide" button I meant a proper "press X to put gun to head" kind of suicide button.

Sounds like a plan to me.

Besides, with a grenade, if you time it right, you might even take some of your attackers with you.

If you know there's no way out, might as well do your utmost to make your death worthwhile right?

If you're playing tf2 you can put 'kill' or 'explode' in the console to kill yourself. Particularly hilarious if you do the kill one whilst running down stairs or something.

It's dangerous!

Yeah, and it could count as a team-kill and subtract from your score! =D

...wait.

It's a good idea, but you know it would be abused. However, if there was a penalty for doing so to balance it out, it'd be alright.

Say, deny enemy the kill, but suffer an XP loss or longer respawn?

It should be included in any fps zombie games though.

You can do this on Unreal Tournament by binding a console command for killing yourself to a letter. It was very useful in trials, never really used it in Deathmatch. In general, I think it'd be abused.
