I'm going to be my brother for a second and mention his problem with wisdom teeth, because I have no problems with my teeth. He's had about 5 teeth pulled out due to over-crowding. I can't imagine the pain he was in.

Back in Elementary(Primary)School I was in a race and I accidently tripped and the top of my mouth collided with the black top. There was gravel in my teeth and I had to go to the dentist later that week to get it out.

I also use to have silver crowns.

Much the same has happened to me. I had your confidence in my pain threshold.
Then I got an abscess.

You cannot imagine the pain.

[sub]Incidentally I had to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth out because they were impacting my other teeth, and that was absolutely fine. No mess, no pain.[/sub]

... am I the only one here that read the thread title as a double entendre? Cos I laughed pretty hard for a bit there.

Then I read stuff about teeth breaking and got a little weirded out.

...

Anyway, I've only ever had to have fillings myself, but my mum got some wisdom teeth removed last week. One had fused with the jawbone and had to be broken off - she'd opted for local anaesthetic despite the surgeon's recommendation. Sounded like torture to me.

I have terrible teeth, mainly due to my solid diet of sugar and chocolate, so my teeth are riddled with cavities. I currently have 2 exposed cavities and an area where, last year while eating chinese, I bit into something and cracked a quarter of a molar off. Never bothered to get it fixed. It's fine though, I'm pretty much immune to any mouth based pain by now.
Seriously, go and get that seen to. I was the same as you, getting fillings when I was younger put me off visiting the dentist. Then one day, I was just eating a toffee and my molar broke apart. I ignored it for about 10 years thinking I was going to be ok.

And for the first 9 years of that I was ok. Then it got bad really quickly, it got to the point that I couldn't chew anything on the right side of my mouth so I reluctently went to the dentist. Of course the tooth was fucked and had to be removed.

Possibly the worst 45 minutes spent in the company of a sexy Spanish girl anyone has ever had. And at the end of it she couldn't get the roots out so I had to go to the dental surgeon to get them out.

That wasn't so bad.

But still the moral of this story is, don't leave it until its too late.

I have never had anything done to my teeth, I have never had any oral diseases, no filling, root canals, extraction, x-rays or hardware. The dentist said I was looking pretty good and I must brush quite a lot. Then one day in fifth grade I just started bleeding, quite a lot, from my mouth. Gingivitis man, apparently something I ate had broken my already poor gums.

My teeth are annoying. They grew in all funny meaning I had to get orthodontics, but on the upside they are strong as fuck. I've never had a cavity or the like which is even more impressive considering my for lack of a better word "not dentists recommended" diet.

Also I would like to go on record that I clicked on this thread solely to see in which of two ways this thread would head.

A guy punched me in the throat at a gig once, I went flying backwards & ended up with a chipped tooth, so I have a filling there. Otherwise I have perfect teeth & they've never really needed much attention.

Well, as it turns out I must have the jaw of a midget (despite it looking rather square and manly on the outside, because according to my orthodontist there is literally not enough space in my mouth for all of my teeth.

I had my main braces out a while ago but I still have a permanent retainer behind my bottom front teeth because they will never stay in the right place on their own, ever. It's fine most days but every so often (like right now) those incisors decide they want to make a break for freedom and try and pull themselves free of the glue holding them to the wire. This hurts a lot.

I did also once bite my tongue so hard the whole front half was literally held on by a few strings, but that's not strictly 'tooth' related.

But yeah other than that no serious problems.

I had dental surgery, I guess you could call it that.

I had my top jaw broken and realigned because it was originally in a bad position that would've eventually, I don't know I guess broke or something? I just know that it was a very good thing that I got the surgery.

I've also had 12 teeth removed in my life time and got braces twice. I've had a very involved dental history.

Don't tell anyone, but I think that might've been the whole point!

[sub]And that's what I'd tell to the women I sleep with, if it ever happens...[/sub]

Thats great! I had good teeth too-- two of them took a move in my late 20s and I was able to correct that quickly with invisalign. I still have my wisdom teeth, too.

I don't know how old you are, and I suspect its young because you don't have fillings. While this advice applies to everyone of all age groups-- it is especially targeted for those under 25:

FLOSS. God dammit its more important than brushing to maintaining teeth health. Take it from me, i'm old. If you floss, they're much more likely to stay in this condition, and ain't nothin' worse than root canals. (sometimes when they do a root canal-- pus comes out)

Extra note: flossing is not just bouncing the floss between the teeth-- you take it down on both sides the little pointy bit of the gum for maximum benefit. Its that massaging of that part of the gum that gives most of the dental care benefit.

Well... can I still answer what the title suggested? <_<

OT: I had to get surgery to remove a small muscle that was causing a small gab between my two front teeth. It wasn't an emergency, but we thought it would be a good idea to take it out anyway so that it wouldn't cause too many problems. It was pricey, though. Quite the investment. And you know what? The little fucker grew back! So I don't care about my teeth anymore. Just... fuck dental hygiene!

I suggest you do the same, Red.

No. And thankfully my dental is covered by my mother's insurance still. Dunno when that stops working for me but this new job I've got also covers dental after a certain point.

Aw... :(

... Well, was the title intentional? 'Cause it seems too much of a coincidence for it not to be.
