Of course it could work.

Also it would not need a complex plot. Not every movie needs a complex plot. Just something to keep the rest of the movie going.

I think they should do a short film (like 3o minutes) and release it on the internet...but then I guess they wouldnt make any money from that.

How do you make a movie out of a game that has no plot, Characters with no back story or depth, and areas that have no significance?

It could work...Meet the spy was more a movie than the other ones, they were more interview-type movies, this one actually had a bit of a story.

We were just discussing this in the Live Chat not too long ago...

I met an animator from Valve. When asked the question directly, he couldn't give us a direct answer for legal reasons, but his exact quote was "We'd be stupid not to."

He did tell us that the "Meet the Team" series was originally done to create character depth so they could find a storyline for a movie.

Knowing Valve and thier history I'm sure it would be great but it would be like Duke Nukem forever and just never come out. It would take several years at least but I'd pay to see it

That's the point tho isn't it? Okay, a full length film may have been a bit long, but the reason that I think something longer than 3 min could work is because of the potential of each character. A story does not need depth to be good, and hell you could just give each character a backstory as part of it! Say... when they were all children, they had their own lives, but played like "war" together or something like that. A full 2 hour length may have been a tad long, but if Valve did release a 20-30 minute film sort of like their meet the... vids, if they did it right it could be awesome.

Me: "Why this is irrational... this is Madness!!"

Studio Exec: "This is not madness, THIS...IS....HOLLYWOOD!"

A Team Fortress 2 Movie would be awesome.
Without going into a HUGE list of reasons/details to make it perfect ...
The story could be about /whatever/ they wanted. The game is multiplayer only, there is NO story they'd have to go off of, except the established classes, and the two teams.
Hell. They could make a movie about an original single team, and how they got coaxed into being bred into clones, who knows/cares? The Meet the ____ videos are hilarious. Would it really matter if the movie wasn't perfect?

However, I'd prefer to just see a show. This would work a lot easier, would be much less expensive to produce, and would mean we'd have a lot more of it.
Though, I guess the meet the class videos are essentially a Team-Fortress 2 Sitcom ... It's just very slim, doubles as a promotional/"instructional" batch, and takes foreeeeeverrr to come out with new ones.

it's a pure multiplayer game, there is no story - the 'meet the' vids are a graphics/style demo showcasing the class stereotypes.

full length movie would suck. you can only write so many minutes of dialogue before the soldier/heavy's stupidity or scouts arrogance becomes dull.

meet the spy was perfect. similar clips, including the meet the pyro/medic should be great. no reason to overuse the same material and ruin it.

Weird, this is kind of like "Minesweeper: The Movie" (check it out on youtube)
This is just a bad idea. Games should not be made into movies! Plus, think of all the newbies it would bring into TF2.

Well then, fuck it. I thought it would be a kinda cool idea but guess that was a willing hope. :p If an admin sees this thread can he please lock it? Seems pointless to be wasting the bandwidth of the Escapees here.

Also, if anyone else sees this, no need to post. Move along!

1. Pixar does kids movies, so a game with guns and blood would not transfer into a movie idea on their list.
2. How would a multiplayer game with little to no plot whatsoever be turned into a feature-length film? It just doesn't make sense.

So, in layman's terms, there is no way a tf2 movie could work.

I think a few internet short videos would be better, 5-10 minutes or so, each with a different setting/story. A little like the Pixar mini films before their main ones.

Short and sweet, aimed for a few laughs rather than a full length action movie.

UH sorry but how the fuck would it work?
Dude, we're talking about a company that made movies about a lost fish, a bunch of toys, and a superhero family drama. It couldn't be that hard for them.
Ya but does TF2 have a story line I totally missed or what?
Yes.

You see, the Blue Soldier's ex-husband, the Red Heavy Weapons Guy, got into this argument about their divorce custody rights. The Scouts are trying to grab the intelligence for their same-colored friends Blue Soldier and Red Heavy Weapons Guy, respectfully, as they believe their side is in the right. Now Blue Heavy Weapons Guy has had a crush on Red Heavy Weapons Guy for a long time now, but Red Heavy Weapons Guy is too afraid of being hurt again, so their relationship can never be. The son of Blue Soldier, Blue Sniper, and the son of Red Soldier, Red Spy, are mad lovers, but their parents refuse to allow them to marry, and are forced to fight one another. Red Sniper is arranged to marry Red Spy on the 14th of Wednesday, so Red Spy uses his disguises to visit Blue Spy at the base. Blue Engineer hears of this, and is infuriated, saying, and I quote, "Somebody's sappin' mah sentry!" to Blue Pyro, who challenges Red Spy to a duel. Red Spy runs away to Verona, and Red Heavy Weapons guy takes the challenge. Blue Medic tries desperately to break up the dispute, but it ends in the death of Red Heavy Weapons Guy, followed by Red Pyro in the mix, who was secretly his half-brother Blue Sniper. Blue Pyro then, in his fit of agony, stabs himself with his Fire Axe, which sets off a chain of events, ending in the death of almost everyone.

Then, everyone rolls Spy because of the new upgrade.
