1) Gives other people something often more memorable than a username

The importance you place on recognition is alien to me, the importance of visual presentation seems lazy.

2) Shows a little snapshot of your personality, or something you like

Or you can just use the badges. A picture may be worth a thousand words, I don't consider myself neither that cheap or easily accessible.

3) Takes literally a minute to set

It takes a lot less to remove, all of them. I guarantee it.

I'd say it's about as annoying as people complaining about avatars, or the lack there of.

So I'll say to you the same thing I said to Vegosiux with regards to the permaban avatar: "The easiest answer is "Cry me a river then build a bridge and get over it."

Ever think that maybe they don't WANT to set an avatar? Perhaps it's part of their personality that they're just a blank slate, not fitting to any one specific mold?

Whenever I upload one, even though it matches all the prerequisites, it'll always turn into a broken image thumbnail. Tried it many times and no change. I can only choose from the standard ones, so I'm stuck with Ein... which ain't so bad, but still.

EDIT: just read some post that apparently it takes a while?
