EDIT: apparently one word posts are bad so: Mulan because reasons.

EDIT 2: Also Leila from Futurama is pretty kick ass, she mops the floor with everyone else.

Cynthia Rothrock, known for a bunch of low budget fighting movies, including Yes, Madam (starring the already mentioned Michelle Yeoh) and the infamous Undefeatable (It's bad, but in that awesome B-movie way!), as well as being world karate champion a number of times in the early/mid 80's.

Looking up what year Undefeatable was from, I found she was actually in a movie this year called Badass Showdown. Not seen it, but judging by the trailer it's positively awful. Lots of male eye candy, though, if you're into that kind of hairless MMA man/boy body.

Annie Leonhardt from Attack on Titan.

I'll tell you why too- because she trains daily, continuously in hand-to-hand. The show respects girls by never having 'fan service' moments of any body parts exposed... sexually that is.
Yeah, but then it has a bunch of context-free badass women that exist to be intimidating. Sorry, I just dislike AoT's character writing.

OT: Judi Dench's M. She has such stage presence that she can singlehandedly save an otherwise terrible Pierce Brosnan movie from failure. And in a good movie, she's absolutely perfect. When she speaks, you listen. She wields power with utter confidence and poise.
...she still pulls attention from Daniel Craig.

Judi Dench! Classiest Lady who ever lady-d.

My favorite incarnation of 'M' from James Bond movies. She's not really 'kick-ass' so much as gives off the air of being kick-ass. But still qualifies. I one day aspire to be that damn smooth.

Edit: Fuck. Ninja'd

Asuka and Misato from Evangelion. Misato gets bonus points for being a beer drinking maniac.

My bad.

My answer is so out of place in this thread.

Whatever, she is totally kick ass, I just didn't realise you literally meant women who physically kick asses.
It is, but it isn't, is what I'm saying. It's a take which I did not consider, which is a good thing for discussion.

Anyway...

Let's talk Babylon-5.

Probably the three top female characters in there would be Delenn, Susan Ivanova, and Lyta Alexander.

Delenn, of course, is a leader. She is not the greatest fighter, but she is of a composed will that drives people forwards by words alone, and not just of her people. Even when pulled from the Grey Council, she has extreme pull from having mythic-level wisdom on matters.

Susan Ivanova is also in command, but she is more into actual action and gets...creative. She is an effective military leader and combat fighter in one. And by the end of the series, she is...what? General of Earth's armed forces in their entirety and leader of the Rangers?

And Lyta...well...where to begin? First psychic to read the mind of a Vorlon, rebel against her controlling agency to expose a Sleeper agent on the station, heading off to become a Vorlon liason at the risk of her own life, fighter for psychic-human rights. Oh...and walking telepathic nuke.

Getting obscure, my favorite is Star Captain/Commander Joanna from the Battletech novels.

Really? This long with no mention of Bayonetta? Well, time to fix that:

Do I really need to go into detail here? I think that video speaks for itself quite nicely.

Michelle Rodriguez obviously. She plays the exact same character in every film I've ever seen her in, but she's always a badass.

And I know it's been said, but Hermione Granger from Harry Potter.

A page and a half of comments and no one's mentioned Buffy? You guys are doing it wrong

If were sticking to videogames then Boss from Metal Gear Solid 3.

Actually, taking that long to get to Buffy is a good thing. It means there's still lots more to come.

Speaking of which, Coyote from Shadowrun Returns. Elven street samurai, immaculate with a shotgun.

The most kick ass woman I can think of is Cynthia Rothrock.
I used to have a huge crush on her when I was a kid.
I wanted her to be Sonya Blade in the Mortal Kombat movie.

Here's a compilation of her kicking a bunch of asses:

I always had an affinity for Samantha Caine from the Long Kiss Goodnight. She's badass without having to be some exaggerated parody or having sci-fi/fantasy based super powers.

Claudia Black... in particular, as Aeryn Sun in Farscape.

She brooks no nonsense, and gives no quarter.

The live-action counterpart to Futurama's Turanga Leela...
and Leela's another, for similar reasons.
