OT: The recent thread involving suicide kinda sorta bothered me. The large amount of users who felt the need to comment on how they don't care about suicide was kind of disturbing. You'd think if they really didn't care they wouldn't say anything.

I wouldn't call the ads, the questionable modship, or the damn captchas a small issue. All three are aggravating to the Escapist at large. But hey, I don't actually have to say it. Thanks to the staff and their attention, I can now just death-glare the whole Escapist and they know that I am in disapproval of them.

But really, the only things that annoys me is there reoccuring threads that's about "I like X, what do you like about X" "Everybody loves Z, but you hate Z" Other than that is this place pretty darn good.

I agree with Aylaine that removing the Forum Games and Role Playing forums from the Post Counts would easily balance things out.

Wait, what? I understand why removing posts in Forum Games from counting towards the post count has been suggested. But the Role Playing forum? You can't use the RP forum for inflating your post count, especially in RPs where the GM expects good post quality, so why do that? It just penalizes people who mainly post there, such as me.

Besides, it's just better to ignore the number and look at the content of the post. I'm not saying that we should remove it, just saying that it's only a number, and should be regarded as such.

In addition, I hate how multi-page threads just get impregnable. The Escapist has gotten large, quite large, and the number of users that post are high. Even if I have something relevant and actually worthwhile to add to a thread, I just end up not doing it if the thread is beyond 1 or 2 pages. By that point, the thread has become a waste bucket, where no one ever reads anything except the first few posts, or briefly skims the first page before replying, then they post, then they skim the page their post is on, and more often than not edit their posts because of what the final page's content consists of. I think at some point, threads become impregnable, and the worth it has ends.

I share this same lament.
I'd have a higher post count, but when I see 200+ replies on something, I often don't bother.

Different sub-forums, different context. RP threads often get to 15+ and it would just clutter that forum if there was a hard post limit with different threads for different chapters as soon as the thread reached the page limit.

I get tired of people automatically assuming things about you if you disagree with or criticise their arguments.

In a thread about how nasty some PC elitists can be I basically said in response to somebody saying that "This issue with PC gamers needs to be sorted out."

I pointed out that people are individuals, some nice and some nasty, you can't just point at all PC gamers and go "There is a problem with you all".

Apparently this meant that I thought all of the nasty things some PC gamers say is okay. I don't get the leap of logic, but it isn't that uncommon.

The way that the warning system works is probably my biggest problem.

Unless you go offline for six months, you are slowly going to work your warnings up. it definitely needs reworking. I mean, a guy could be banned for having 8 low-content posts as it stands.

That would imply that he/she did not regard their first strike seriously. If something is against the rules, but you keep doing it, then you will get banned. It only gets to that point if they either do not care about the rules, or simply can't abide by them. In my opinion, 8 chances are enough so long as you follow the rules.

This one has always bugged me as well. It's not as intelligent as it likes to think either. I remember when the phrase "The last bastion of intelligence" was the most commonly used phrase by forum regulars.

All the while the most popular threads were Halo and religion bashing.Or in troll threads the first thirty replies saying "Don't respond, he's obviously a troll".

Other than that, I don't really have any other things to complain about, the topics/threads that I find annoying, I avoid.

Any complaints are welcome, but please stay civil and polite.

My complaint: Excessive thread derailing grinds my gears, especially in threads in which the OP asked several times for the derailing to stop.
