Yahtzee created some point and click adventure games using AGS and a paint program a few years back, called XDAS or The Chzo Mythos that scared a good many people. I'd recommend them, even if after the first 2, retconning sinks in.

Well, if you weren't too scared by Amnesia, I guess the only thing I can suggest is the Penumbra series. While I haven't played any of the games myself, I have seen parts of playthroughs that are scary just as a viewer. Also, Penumbra is made by the developers as Amnesia. That last part is just a thought for you to think on.

Call of Cthulu : Dark Corners of the Earth.

Know what a Shoggoth is? You have to fight one.

It was a terrible, indescribable thing vaster than any subway train?a shapeless congeries of protoplasmic bubbles, faintly self-luminous, and with myriads of temporary eyes forming and un-forming as pustules of greenish light all over the tunnel-filling front that bore down upon us, crushing the frantic penguins and slithering over the glistening floor that it and its kind had swept so evilly free of all litter.

Oh, and guns? Really just annoy them.
The Shoggoth section was, in my opinion, the worst part of the game. At least the actual "fight" was. Crawling through the ducts etc was well done.

I have to agree that Dark Corners was a really good horror game however. Shame they never made the sequel which was in the works at one point :(

The problem with scary games is if you play them too much you just get jaded to it. Combine that with modern games thinking that gore and jump frights == scary then you end up with very few valid games to pick from.

Few console games ever approach Fatal Frame though, perhaps Haunting Ground. Although they are all last gen :/

Don't know how well it plays/looks now but the first Condemned was quite scarey, especially at the end.

I would recommend the first Condemned game, not the second though. It's aged a bit since 2006 but it's still one of the best horror/thriller games out there to date.
If you're into psychological horror than this. The game is a bit dated, but 'Condemned' still works so well because the horror happens on a very human level (combined with great mindfucks). Don't be fooled by the rather harmless first level, the build up (especially in the last 2-3 missions) is very intense.

And a word of warning: If you enjoy the game then STAY AWAY FROM THE SECOND. Seriously, it goes a worse way than 'Fear 3' by making the protagonist an annoying prick and explaining everything in the most clichée way possible.

Just got STALKER on sale from Steam. I haven't really experienced anything scary so far in my few hours of play but my friend says there are some pretty creepy moments.

Personally, the scariest game I've ever played was System Shock 2. ;_; ;_; ;_;

Out of recent games I can only think of Alan Wake. That one wasn't so scary and creepy, but with great atmosphere. I should give Amnesia a go.

I found this to be relatively creepy.

Of course, any game can be scary given the right mindset and/or phobias, it might be completely unthreatening for the same reason, I think.

I'd say Demon's Souls. It's not scary in the screamer sense, but more in the horror and despair sense. Everything around you is very much dying, and you can't escape from that fact.

It's the easiest to describe though. And you know if that gets them, the rest of the game will petrify them.

I love the vertigo/schizophrenia parts. SO well done.

Oh yeah I actually forgot about that. It's a game that really does build well throughout the story. All in all it was a very good game. Definitely one of my favourites of last gen. Feel like playing it now. Might have to dig it out.

Alan Wake/Metro 2033 has pretty awful horror BUT the atmosphere is top notch.

Condemned series, great, GREAT horror games. And FEAR 1. FEAR 2/3 are a joke.
I think im going to go pick up the first FEAR (the only one I have yet to play) and maybe the Condemned series? Condemned, Alan Wake and Metro 2033 seem to be the general consensus on this, so thanks for all the help you guys.

Like many have said so far, Condemned: Criminal Origins may be one of the BEST games on the 360 and certainly one of the best horror games. Beware the second though; parts of it are so laughably bad, you have to just stop for a second and ponder why you are even playing the game. I have nothing but praise for the first one though.

Might get told off but I thought Fallout 3 was pretty scary. The atmosphere is quite bleak and can be unnerving, all those abandoned [well, almost abandoned] bunkers and buildings. Sure being able to carry around a rocket launcher might ruin the effect but you don't have to. When I got the game I purposefully limited myself, carried around only weak guns and knives and stuck to sneaking around. I think it should qualify as a survival horror game, especially with some of the DLC.

You didn't mention if you played Fear 1 and 2, and if you have you may as well disregard what I say.

But I think the first two are quite scary (from what I've heard), I heard Fear 3 is just blood and gore.
The first two aren't scary their just sorta creepy some jump scares.

I'd say Metro 2033, even when nothing was happening, it was buildup for what was just about to happen, at least in my opinion. The whole game was creepy, and the tactics the Ai used was scary, at one point I saw them, but the ran into the shadows, then attacked me when I walked past. Its the type of scary that makes you on edge the whole time.
Seconded. Metro 2033 was terrifying in parts. The first chase scene nearly made me put a hole in the ceiling.

I haven't played to many, but we had to turn down teh background music of Fallout 3, because there were all these creepy sounds and wailing. It was really disconcerting when you're in ametro full of ghouls
