Setting aside the fact it's probably bloody weird as hell to see those two games mentioned side by side I'm going to get into this. I think I'll use spoiler tags to split it a bit in case people only want to read one part.

I picked up FF14 recently on my PS3 and apart from being unable to log in for the first 3 days due to servers being full I'm enjoying the game. So far my experience with it has been pretty positive. At time of writing I'm still "independant" from any free companies, which are basically player guilds, and outside of the few times I've been forced to party up for story quests I've tended to prefer going solo.

The biggest gripe I have with the game currently is that, well, the gold farmer bots are kind of like cockroaches, every few hours a new one pops up and apparantly some are even managing to hijack legitimate accounts (I don't have a citation for that so take it however you will).
As an Ex-WoW player these bots don't surprise me or anything, but jesus they can get bad sometimes, I've even had a few start spamming me via private messages, thank god for the blacklist.

I was a bit bummed that my favorite job in the franchise, the Dark Knight, isn't in the game, but it's still new and I'm sure as they release updates and expansions they will add new classes and such, so it could be put in later. They do have the Lancer/Dragoon though, which is what I opted to start with. It's also nice to know that I don't have to make a new character if I want to switch classes, I can just go to the guild associated with that class and sign up, though levels are independant between classes.

I'm still in my free trial month, but if the game continues to be a positive experience for me I may just get a 6 month subscription, which according to square enixs website is about 14 bucks, which is FAR more affordable than WoW was, and cheap enough that if I have lulls in how often I play it I'm not losing much money.

In the name of full discloser I feel that I should mention I have not actually played Hotline Miami. I've heard of it through news articles and such here on the escapist but aside from that I knew little about the game, then lastnight I watched a longplay of it.
Holy Hell, to say this game is fucked up is an understatement. It's fast paced, hyper violent and probably the goriest retro themed game I've seen in some time. That said, the concept of the game, heading to various lacations at the behest of cryptic messages on your answering machine and killing everybody there in such a fasion that you would single handedly put the kids of a crime scene clean up crew through university, all the while your grip on sanity steadily goes the way of the Dodo, is actually kind of interesting to me. The soundtrack was also not at all what I was expecting, meaning I didn't expect it to be as good as it is.

I've yet to decide if I want to actually get this game or not though, I have enough money to pick it up, and while I like the actual gameplay behind it and like that it's a hard game that'll most likely kick my ass so hard I walk like I was born on a horse, on top of loving the soundtrack, the...brutality of the game, for lack of a more fitting word, kind of puts me off a bit. Which is weird to me since I'm not normally bothered by gory games.

I was going to say more, but the weather is acting up and I want to post this before I possibly lose power and have to rewrite all of this, so forgive the sudden halt.

...dunno what kind of topic you want to bring about but I'll bite.

Just wait for a Steam Sale if you're interested in Hotline Miami. It's a short game, but very fun outside of that one stupid stealth mission.
Yeah sorry, I'm not that good at making threads, my intention really was to just make a general threat discussing both of these games.

As for the steam sale, I was leaning more towards picking it up on the PS3 if I decided to get it. I'm more of a console gamer and my PC isn't very strong. While I'm sure it could run Hotline Miami, I had bouts of slowdown while playing To The Moon on this thing, HM would probably make my computer give me the finger given how fast the game can get.
