Prozac, an anti depressent. Has notoriety for side effects and I'm being hit by them. Right now.

If you get upset when your on Prozac, your mind makes it just that much worse. You know your on the stuff, but you believe it's not working, your mind constantly feels like it's crushing in on you. Old habits catch up to you and make things worse. You can't think straight.

Currently, I just got viciously dumped by my girlfriend who I thought was a good person. Then she sends me a video of her with another guy, having sex. Video was recent, as it was showing the LOST finale in the background... A thought entered my head about killing myself before I snapped into reality and got a grip. Others might not so lucky to snap out of it.

This is a warning to those with depression. Sometimes, Drugs don't help. Now I need to calm down. Going for a bath then getting some shut eye. Night all.

Oh, and to promote discussion value, give your thoughts on Anti Depressants.

Hello, Been a While so Here's a snappy Edit:

Everything has been resolved, and I must say, I have you lot to thank. No if you don't mind, I feel like I need some more sleep. Here's This in the meantime.

I hope you get better.
OT: I try not to take prescription drugs that affect the mind like that. I make sure I understand the side effects, and try to stay away from prescriptions.

Eh I was diagnosed with primary depression and given the choice of a number of drugs from anti depressants to god knows what. I chose not to take them and advise everyone else to especially if youre a teenager. They tend to have adverse effects on teenages especially but for some reasons doctors will still prescribe them.

Anywhoo just go to group therapy or see a councillor if youre depressed. Its the best way about it.

I was on Prozac from grade 6 through 9, and it was pretty bad. It worked well, balancing my moods and making me less irritable and depressed, but in doing that it completely changed my personality. I went off of it after my parents were unsure as to whether or not it was even doing anything anymore, and it turns out it was, in a big way. I like my grumpy, sometimes depressed, prone to fits of rage self. He's so much more charismatic.

Also, we're pretty sure that it stunted my growth in a big way, and I know it turned me into an annoying attention whore through the first two years of high school, the consequences of which I'm still trying to live down. Those consequences being making friends with people who I now realize are complete tools.

Send the sex video to her Dad! It'll make you feel much better, I guarantee it.

Seriously, I hope you get better. I never used depression meds, but some of the medication I've used really fucked with my head.

It blows my mind that there is such an epidemic of "depression" out there. Now, I'm a bit of an optimist myself, but there's only one thing I have to say.

To all those suffering from depression:

There are people all over Africa suffering from far more than just being depressed. Starvation, disease, homelessness, wild animals, drought, civil wars, marauders, pirates, warlords, genocide, slavery and more.

Your personal problems really aren't that bad, now are they?

Welp, the others aren't good either: Effexor and Clipralex have killed me from the waist down. I'd be pissed if I could feel feelings anymore.

I guess you missed the memo about the biological components.

I am strictly against behavior altering drugs, since my encounter with Zoloft. Zoloft was bizarre, in that it alleviated the majority of my depression but also cut down on my ability to think and perceive. It made it hard to measure any consequence to my actions, and once you lose that you lose your grip on morality. This didn't help when added to the fact that I have poor empathic skills.

Now I just rely on naturally produced adrenaline when hit with fits of despair. I also found that a little bit of alcohol, not enough to lose cognitive ability, also helped lift my spirit. Though neither of them are really accepted in our current society.

Someone I know also took a similar approach and ditched their anti-depressants as they too believed it only furthered the problem. Of course, it's highly un-reccomended and you should consult your doctor. I truly hope you begin to feel better soon.

Old meme is old.

No shit, there are people suffering worse than some people here. Doesn't make it any less valid, bro.

Anti-depressants are only good as relievers and short-term solutions with all the fun of side-effects. Only problem is, we're increasingly more dependant on these drugs and we're somewhat ignoring more longer-term treatment like CBT. After all, it's cheaper in the short term to take a pill or two so you can see some immediate results than to go to therapy for a good three months, or so, and then maybe start seeing results.

So I heard you know nothing about depression.

My brother tried some Prozac when he was diagnosed with severe depression.

All it gave him was the confidence he needed to try to kill himself.

Fortunately, he wasn't successful, and eventually found some much better meds.

I refused to take anti-depressants, I've heard so many bad things about them. I'm in theraphy at the moment which in my opinion is better than taking meds because it deals with the actual cause, not the symptoms.

I don't like taking medication in general.

Can't sleep well? Take a pill!
Can't pay attention? Take a pill!
Life's shit? Take a pill!

Pills can't solve everything, better to deal with things by confiding in others or just getting a grip. Everything passes eventually, you just need time to ride it out.

Listen to this advice. It is the only advice you will ever need. It is, in fact, so awesomely evil that I am considering stealing it and copyrighting it this very second.

I'm very sorry that your ex is being quite so outrageously vulgar, mine decided manipulation and trickery were better than using jealousy. Either way, bitchy ex's are never fun.

I hope you cheer up soon. And hey, you still have Calumon, and he is awesome :)

I'm sorry to hear you are going through a rough time Jack.

My thought on anti-depressants are: They should be taken only when prescribed, and should not be mixed with alcohol. Ever.

prozac isn't a great ssri tbh, it never did that much for me, these days there are much more selective inhibitors available with better side effect profiles like Citalopram at 40mg to 60mg, though if you do start taking it I strongly recommend starting at a low dosage like 5mg and working up (5,10,20 etc), otherwise it hits you like a truck.
