So, this is what finally happened.
Without my noticing it Windows 10 Update loaded onto my computer but didn't update automatically--apparently I had to initiate it myself.
OTOH a bundle of Adware came with it and I spent much of the past three days waging a frigging war against all of the PUP software that seemed determined to destroy my computer. Moreover I had malware riding the Adware as well.
Have you ever spent six to nine hours running deep scans with your anti-virus and anti-malware software? Yep, that was me.
It wasn't until yesterday that I became fairly sure that I purged all of the junk from my system. Along the way I got rid of the Windows 10 Update and Privacy Settings--for all of a few hours. It downloaded back onto my system though I haven't activated it.
Or am I deluding myself? Is the presence of "Windows 10 Update and Privacy Settings" in my programs signify that it installed itself into my computer-again? I've got it on manual, btw.
