Smoking doesn't make you fat... It makes you want to eat less so it does the opposite... (which is one of the reasons (some) models do)
shut up I haven't slept yet!
Why is that such a common excuse for getting something wrong around here? lol.
Meh, it's a scapegoat used throughout the web.
Because "I've yet to sleep tonight" is much more likely to be believed, as opposed to "Sorry for the typo/incorrect fact, currently fighting a dragon made of titanium and chicken!"
so noted

There's an edit button. I suggest using it if you feel it's needed.

Smoking makes you fat. If you're a girl, and if you're a teenager. I learned it in biology last year, so forgive me if I don't have all the specifics right, but there's a chemical in cigarettes that when it reacts with the hormones in a teenage female, dictates the metabolism speed of that individual later in life? Something along those lines. I know that the slow-down only takes affect once you stop smoking, so your choices are obesity, or lung cancer. Good choice, you smoking children.

Uh... Then you'd have just made a thread about all the other things that kill people.

People want to smoke? Sure, let them. I'm not going to step all over their rights.

So long as they don't hurt us with second hand, I don't have an issue.
This really.

I absolutely hate smoking myself, but i don't think it should be completely banned.

However, smoking in confined areas = just NO
If smoking only affected the person doing it, it wouldn't be a problem. But that isn't the case at all.

Ahh man I haven't slept yet, leave me alone.
Hmm didn't know that, however I used smoking as a substitute for food whilst I was a poor student living on my own just happily and I lost weight, without feeling hungry. Did it because I was poor not because I cared if I was fat or not. Haven't stopped though, but I (highly) doubt I'd get fat. (I'm a skinny bastard)

That's just me though, if there's some biology jargon that proves you get fat I'll get to watch some of my friends balloon soon enough. :D

Edit: hang on, it's just if your a girl/teenager? :S

Indeed. It would be impossible for it to be banned regardless, as the amount of money it rakes in for the US is hilariously large.

This, meant seriously, and then we have to consider that I'm not the only one that would be balancing the scales, as far as the population goes. If I didn't smoke, I'm pretty sure at least some of the people that wouldn't have died from smoking would die by my hands, when my stress levels got too high.

No, I'm not kidding. Not even a little bit.

Yeah, trying to reach that goal these days is somewhat stupid from a monetary view. Governments generally put a lot of tax on such things as fags, so while we may have organisations like the NHS trying to get people to stop smoking, the simple fact is that were everyone to stop smoking, some other product would then be massively taxed.

If people want to smoke, let them. I don't think a world without tobacco would be any different from the one we have today, except maybe withmore stoners...

I don't particularly care about 'passive smoking' either, especially when you consider the amount of toxic fumes that you'd inhale walking down a busy street.

I just noticed something, your thread is about anti-smoking and your avatar is Hunter S. Thompson who notably chain smoked. I'm not downing you but that's a little funky yet ironic in the same twist.

Anywho, I agree it would be somewhat better but genes play a part.

When considering the auto fumes, don't forget that 99% of construction (new buildings, refurbishments, whatever), have (potentially cancerous) fumes associated with almost every process involved. I'm an industrial roofer, and almost EVERYTHING I work with is cancerous in "relatively" small doses. "Relatively" meaning that over my career span, I'll exceed the safe dosage limits tens, if not HUNDREDS of times. In some cases, I exceed those limits daily, and not everything I work with only causes problems when inhaled; some products are cancer-causing by multiple exposure avenues; ie- inhalation, exposed skin, etc.

The things than aren't (potentially) cancer-causing generally cause either chronic or acute respiratory issues, or just completely other bad things to happen. But I get paid awdully good to work out, tan, break shit, and play with fire... XD

I think that no smoking in the world is too big a step. Let's start with no smoking at the bus stop. I hate it when people do that. Second hand smoke is evil.
It is also illegal to smoke at busstops.
It is? Huh. Then why don't the cops nail them?

I love living in ireland....we dont let people smoke in places of work, or in cars while driving. basicly outdoors, at least 10ft away from the door and in there own homes are the only places we let them smoke. We dont even let my mam smoke in the house. The only reason its not illegal in most countries is the amount of tax govs make on them. 8.45 a pack in ireland, about 5 goes straight to the gov. It should be illegal, its suicide and murder all in one, your slowly killing yourself and afflictin those around you with second hand smoke. Ive had to give up sports because of second hand smoke from my own mother.

If we are talking U.S here, police have no enforcement until somebody comes up with fines.
